LOL ronin-
I didn't feel it until my wife woke me up, i was out cold. Down in kitakurihama, it lasted a good minute or two from what i recall, then went right back to sleep no problem what so ever.

Wow, look at the glass in that car dealership. Every time they put up a new building in Tokyo these days the ratio of glass just seems to get higher and higher. If it all ends up like the picture above I hope I am not walking past one of those buildings when a big quake hits. It's going to be like raining daggers.

30 kms away from the epicenter here. lots of things falling off the shelves. Those stoppers to stop furniture falling over really do work! Lots of cracked buildings around town.

Taka, are you sure you didn't just forget to feed your crawfish? Maybe he was banging on the tank with his claw because he was hungry! If crawfish really gave us 5 minutes' warning before a quake, wouldn't everyone have one?

i was about going to bed (those damn computer games!) when the mansion started shacking not so strong as when the earthquake occured in iwate but it lasted longer

I have actually seen on TV experiments where crawfish get agitated just before an earthquake- there does seem to be something in it. There is also an early warning alarm on the market now which in some cases does manage to sound before an earthquake happens- everyone doesn't have one of those yet either though, do they.

Well, our crawfish drummed out frantic paradiddles with claws on the glass, then squirted message bubbles until we woke up. So there...

"I have actually seen on TV..."
Well, then, it must be so!
"Well, our crawfish drummed out frantic paradiddles"
That's it then! I'm going to go out and buy a crawfish and a tank to put it in today! And then I'm going to hire someone to watch it 24/7 because I'm a sound sleeper and I wouldn't wake up unless stuff was crashing onto the floor from an earthquake.

I can see the pet shops are going to be emptied of crawfish by this weekend.

I hope people in that area are safe... I've always long thought that Japan is in for another major quake in the next century. I sincerely hope I"m wrong about that. Meanwhile here, we're gettin' the wrath of Hurricane Dolly.

To be more specific, a Japanese researcher who has been studying these things for years has found that his crawfish seem agitated just prior to earthquakes. This kind of thing is well documented with other animals as well. True that just because it is on TV does not necessarily make it so, but being on TV doesn't necessarily make it a load of crap either, which is why I said "there does seem to be something in it".
delitachan, the scientists also think that Japan is in for another major quake, so it's not just you. Tokyo is known to be well overdue for another big one.

‘‘We will do what is needed after grasping the situation,’’ Fukuda said.
On the other hand, update your survival kits, folks, because your unelected representatives clearly couldn't give a monkey's. Inertia in action.

have been in Japan for 4 years. Today is the most unforgetable. The earthquake quite longer then before. The mansion where I live dont have any problem...very good architacture

Cleo, I went to the pet shop to get a crawfish and, wouldn't you know it, they didn't have any! Never did, apparently! Guess I'm going to have to find another way to find out when the next quake hits 5 minutes before it does - those electronic "early" warning alarms only give you like 20 seconds... sometimes! Taka, where'd you get your crawfish? Tama River? Where? Out with it! The people of Japan anxiously await your answer!

Remember, Taka, if the crawfish don't predict the next one, it's time for Mrs. Taka to learn how to make jambalaya.
