73-year-old woman dies in Oita landslide

OITA —

A 73-year-old woman on Thursday morning died in a landslide caused by heavy rain in Kokonoe, Oita Prefecture. Masue Yoshimitsu, 73, was rescued from her engulfed house at 6 a.m. about 7 hours after the landslide hit it. She was taken to hospital but confirmed dead at 7:15 a.m.

According to police and the fire department, the victim’s son Akinobu, 58, called police around 11:10 p.m. on Wednesday, telling them his mother was stuck inside the house after the landslide hit. Police said the victim was found in her futon.
