Further proof that Japanese politicians are the biggest morons on the planet! I'll bet they campaign on the fact that they reduced government spending.

Up again, down again. Every get the feeling that these doctors are holding people to ransom? So much for the oath they take. Hypocrites rather than Hippocrates! Responsibilty be damned. Obviously, they put the former mayor over a barrel and he complied (raising their salaries and closing down important medical services). This new mayor has done a 180, bring down the salaries and recommence services. 12 million a year is hardly a borderline salary considering the slave labor that many Japanese people engage in. I would be attempted to tell the mayor to let them leave, I would also ask that the hospital where they work do not offer these doctors references. Given the shortage of (even money-grubbing) doctors in Japan, the mayor is in a very difficult position.

I'd like to see what the hospital administrators spend of food and entertainment. It would probably cover the cost of a new doctor. This is a far cry from CODE BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If my employer announced a 40% pay cut, I'd probably quit too. Especially if my skills were as transferable as a doctor's.

Cool! I make more than that. This makes me feel good for some reason.

so let me get this straight. Last June they get an eight million yen raise. Which is not only more than my annual salary but what a 60% percent raise. (teachers in Hyogo got something like 0.02% last year). And based on the limited info in the article are threatening to quit over a pay cut. How much is the cut? 5% or back to pre-raise salaries? Threatening to quit in protest of overwork or unfair working conditions I can understand. I say give em a choice accept a job out in the country, become a OBGYN or lose your license. 12,000,000 is a pretty nice salary to live in south Osaka.

the medical system here is on the verge of collapsing because of many reasons, one is the country has no control of what kind or how many types of doctors graduate each year so many avoid certain areas of medicine & everyone wants to work in the city(maybe not Osaka now as its official BROKE)leaving the sticks to depend on herbs & witch craft.

Its going to continue to decline, aint no stoppoing it now

but the pols will always have enough money for legions of patronage workers, as well as stuffing that secret box in the bottom drawer that the prosecutors don't know about.

  • Sammi33 at 02:16 PM JST - 2nd November

I will now use my psychic powers to predict next week's news: "Person dies after being rejected by 8 hospitals in Osaka. Reason is said to be understaffing."

  • Youdontknow at 03:14 PM JST - 2nd November

Only 20 million? Sheesh...these doctors would be better off going private with their own practice and make twice that!!
