CHIBA —
Nine race horses died early Monday morning in a fire at their stable at the Funabashi racetrack in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture. A man was slightly injured as he tried to extinguish the fire, police said.
According to police and the fire department, a security officer noticed the fire around 12:40 a.m. and called 119. A 34-year-old horse trainer and his wife were living in a nearby enclosure but they escaped unharmed. Police have not yet determined how the fire started. Nine horses died in a similar fire at the same racetrack in September, 2006, police said.

How are they so sure about the nine?
a) There were only 9 (because there is only place for 9) and all are dead?
b) There were more than 9 and some are in hospital for treatment (not mentioned here, just speculation)?
Don't be surprised if some shops nearby will soon start to offer jaki-baniku (or mayne not written on the label ... like false Kobe beef).
