Wow, who would have thought, activism in Hokkaido. Wow.

The distance from both sites to the venue of the G-8 summit—the Windsor Hotel Toya at the Lake Toya hot-spa resort area—is about 20 kilometers.

Activists are keeping safe distance of 20km, also it was reported by JT that govt will be deploying 20,000 strong police force. If still worried just dont allow them.

"Can anyone direct me to the dreadlock weaving tent?"

I thought Ainu Mosir was an indigenous people's festival being held in June? Why would they risk linking their name with some of the heavy negative publicity that many of the summit protestors want?

    Tents? Haha, filthy hippies.

Why would anyone protest a boring finance meeting like G-8?

  • nandakandamanda at 10:27 AM JST - 27th June

Although their website mentions a gathering the first 4 days of July, but only in Japanese...

Good little business plan. Rent a hectare of pasture land, then rent it out at higher rates to the "renta-hippy" crowd who will come to Japan to protest the G8 Conference. Quite a bearable existance, if you can put up with the mosquitos and cow pats.

They're not protesting the summit itself, I realize some of you are illiterate when it comes to Japanese, but there is an English site here: http://www.ainumosir2008.com/en/program.html

Quote from one of the organizers: "I’d like to welcome the first G8 annual summit to be held in our ancestral homeland Ainu Mosir, now known as “Hokkaido.” This is the first G8 annual summit since the ratification of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous peoples. This Summit offers us an opportunity to raise the voices of Indigenous peoples of the world. Ukocaranke an-naa (Let’s engage in meaningful dialogue!)"

    What exactly are they protesting??

  • nandakandamanda at 04:19 PM JST - 27th June

You may be right jaybeeb, but what does the 'anti' in the above article mean?

Quote: "Anti-G8 Summit Hokkaido (Ainu Mosir) Liaison..."

    They are welcoming the summit???
