Advanced ballistic missile defense network goes into service

TOKYO —

A new air defense network integrating Japan’s ballistic missile sensors and interception systems began operating Wednesday, upgrading the nation’s defense against ballistic missiles, the Air Self-Defense Force said. The roughly 90.4 billion yen project, called the Japan Aerospace Defense Ground Environment, has replaced the Base Air Defense Ground Environment by upgrading the ASDF’s automatic air warning and control system, and features better ballistic missile defense, it said.

The original concept of the new system was to improve the ASDF’s capabilities to counter airborne attacks, such as by airplanes, but since the government decided to build a ballistic missile shield in 2003, antiballistic missile functions were added to the concept. JADGE now serves as the core of the nation’s ballistic missile shield by enabling the search, detection, tracking and interception of ballistic missiles to be conducted in a centralized and automated manner, according to the ASDF. The new network, which is centralized at a base in Fuchu in the suburbs of Tokyo, is also linked to U.S. communications satellites, allowing data to be shared between Japan and the United States. Japan’s two-tiered missile shield consists of Aegis-equipped destroyers that fire guided missiles to shoot down ballistic missiles outside of the earth’s atmosphere and Patriot missiles that intercept incoming ballistic missiles before they hit ground targets. Besides the existing web of ground-based and seaborne radars, advanced radars capable of detecting and tracking ballistic missiles have also been built or are in the process of being built in some parts of the country.

Excuse me... when I said that I want them to starve to death? I only said that the UN and China are there feeding north koreans. So they are not going to starve to death. If you please can point in what post I said that or in what post I sugested that, then I apologize. But if dont remember saying that. I think that you are jumping to conclusions and put words I dont said in my mouth.

    BlackOut:

Well, I can understand your humanitarian points of view, but the fact is that the USA is not selling WMDs technology or exporting missiles that can deliver WMDs like NK do. The UN have good reasons for do sanctions on NK. Allow trade of WMDs and related technology being selled is not very good for anyone.

It can be true that the food of UN end in the mouth of soldiers in place of the north koreans, but what you propose to do? That the UN aprobe NK's nuclear tests and export of missile and nuclear technology? You understand the risk that others regimes can try to follow the example of the regime of NK? If you have other proposal that can punish the tests and secure that the technology is not selled I am open to any sugestions.

Israel has 150 warheads. The US just sold you a 60BN war toy. North Korea is not a regime, its whats left of Korea after Japan invaded it and the US took half of it.

Your ideas sell out your own people. You still don't understand what you are doing. You need a regime change in you mind. Sociopath.

    Israel has 150 warheads.

And Japan refuses to have any nuke.

The US just sold you a 60BN war toy.

An air defense system that cant be used for attact.

North Korea is not a regime, its whats left of Korea after Japan invaded it and the US took half of it.

The Soviet Union taked half of Korea and made it the communist regime that is today. Kim was born in Russia.

Your ideas sell out your own people.

We make and sell cars and TVs.

You still don't understand what you are doing.

Peace and no-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

You need a regime change in you mind.

No thank you, I like Pacifism and Democracy.

    Sociopath.

If make you feel better you can insult me at your heart content, I am inmune to your hate.

"Pacifism is the opposition to war or violence as a means of settling disputes or gaining advantage."

Letting North Korea starve is not Pacifism. Sending troops to South Korea is not Pacifism. Are you a hypocrite?

When your father scolded you for doing the wrong thing, did you consider it hate? Go to your room and think about what you've said.

You are not immune to the laws of morality.

Is in Japan contitution, we call it art.9. The only pacifist contitution of the world.

Letting North Korea starve is not Pacifism.

Pacifism is not doing war, J is not at wart with NK. The UN resolution dont was decided by J, it was aprobed by the members of the UN security council: Russia, China, France, UK and USA. If you have any complain about the UN sanctions talk to them.

Sending troops to South Korea is not Pacifism. Are you a hypocrite?

Japan dont sended troops to the Republic of Korea. J and SK dont have any militar pact, because collective defense is not allowed by the contitution. Can you provide any evidence backing your acusation?

When your father scolded you for doing the wrong thing, did you consider it hate?

You are not my father, you are my equal, I deserve the same respect that I give to you.

Go to your room and think about what you've said.

Why you dont tell Kim to stop murdering north koreans?

You are not immune to the laws of morality.

You just insult pacifist people that have no vote in the UN security council and lack the weapons for attack other country, in place of critic the murderous repressive regime of Kim Jong-il, that sell weapons to other represive regimes like Myanmar. Both regimes supported by China. Your hate for Japan make you turn a blind eye to the root evil for the north koreans and burmese. Is these your morality?

Has anyone thought that when food does go to NK, they divert it to their military? Oh, that's only been going on for the last 50 years or so. Keep up the rhetoric that the world is "starving" the poor NK people. It is Kim Jong "Mentally" Ill that is starving his own people.

Agree the UN is of no help, but do not try to say that all of the ills (no pun intended) of NK were brought upon it by the west. They were given the opportunity to come clean during the 6 nation talks, they refused.

    Ciao

For Aso to go to the G8, and not North Korea directly is not Pacifist.

Read about Pacifism before you claim you are Pacifist: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacifism

I really doubt that by supporting the policies of Elvis, you are helping the north koreans...

jhk, Too bad you won't "defend" the almost 300,000 political prsioners being held in NK penal camps. I take it they are all US implants that were secretly working to overthrow your beloved leader? Or perhaps they are simply just as misguided and illogically prone to freedom as most of the rest of us idiots on this board?

North Korea and the U.S. work together to bilk billions of dollars out of Japan.

  • illsayit at 08:21 AM JST - 8th July

With all this upheaval a defense, thing, in some way gives a sense of security, but instantly I start to feel caved in. Then when yous go on about x0000... number of people and food. I just start to think, why doesnt everybody start gardening or something, surely that will help. Both here and there-well everywhere-, I would add. Then in BOTH spots the humane issue arises, something about, we are 'not allowed to'.

  • PepinGalarga at 01:17 PM JST - 8th July

they should put this system to good use next time that they test a missile. after all, how many more working missiles will NK have?
