Good that it wasn't purple. But the captain at least knew if he was coming up or down. Scuse me while I kiss the sky.

Nice one, @Moonraker.

Good luck on them finding the cause. No doubt the co-pilot ditched his bong out the cockpit window after they landed!

Safety first, a good pilot captain of this ANA 90 when he decided to landing down, as a strange smoke, or burning smell in the cocpit will to cause a big problem, if this thing was not fixed immediately.

A haze and a burning smell? That'll be those old coots in first class stuck in the 80s lighting up the Indian woodbines.

Seriously though, burning smells on a plane are not good. Word has it that in the event of fire, you've about 20 minutes to put the plane on the ground. Those poor UPS guys a few years ago went into the ground in the middle of Dante's Inferno.

The pilot made the right choice.

Hat's off to the pilot. I have to say that despite ANA being in the news quite a bit of late for near misses, it's good to see that they're near misses because the pilot has acted very well while the machines, or other pilots from other companies or the SDF, are the ones with the problems. And why no complaints about safety from Okinawans? That's quite a number of dangerous plane problems in their territory, which they seem to care a lot about at other times.

'Those Old Coots in First Class'? May I ask what you are implying? Should we be made to feel bad if we DON'T travel in Economy?
