A Boeing 777 operated by Japan's All Nippon Airways made an emergency landing in Osaka on Wednesday after the plane suffered engine trouble, the airline said.
None of the 246 passengers or 11 crew were injured, it added.
The flight from Osaka bound for Tokyo left at 7:18 a.m. but the crew soon detected engine problems and they requested to make an emergency landing.
"It turned around and landed back at Osaka airport at 7:50 a.m.," said ANA spokeswoman Hanae Satomura.
All passengers and crew safely exited from the airplane after the emergency landing, she added.
After departure, the pilots encountered power output problems with the left engine and abnormal temperatures in the engine’s emissions, Satomura said.
The airline was investigating the incident, she said.

Just another day at the office. These things happen and these pilots definitely earned their pay today.

Safety first. This plane can fly with 1 engine no problem, landing would have been pretty smooth still. You only really need to worry if both engines fail! Most likely this was a 777-200, a really really lovely plane.

Well, definitely glad they caught it early and had little trouble in bringing it safely home.

The 777 and pretty much most modern airlines have ETOPS ratings of over 180 minutes, with newer aircraft having beyond ETOPS 300. This plane is designed to operate safely with one engine and engine reliability is pretty good and a double engine failure is extremely rare (not unheard of, but very rare).

Thank goodness this wasn't a 787. People would be swearing up and down that it's a failure and that Boeing can't get anything right. Although the circumstances would have been the same.

That's because the 777 has an established safety record. The 787 does not.
