    "post-retirement reemployment"? What the heck...???

  • franz75 at 09:30 AM JST - 30th September

gonemad: they can re-work but at a lower pay. Many companies do the same with their executives.

Why would people who have reached retirement age want to be 're-employed'?

Well, retirement age in most companies (and I imagine it's the same or even earlier for civil servants) is 60, but the full pension isn't available until 64 (soon to be 65).

The whole 'we'll graciously rehire you in the same job for a pittance of your normal salary' stance is a huge scam, one more pockmark on the face of the current pension debacle, and needs to be legislated against. People should be able to work normally up until they reach pensionable age.

cleo - those government workers regire at the age of 60, and they dont get pention money until they are 65, so it is very common for those people to work at a lower pay (doing the same work, though) for 5 years.

I do actually agree with you that instead of rehiring people for the same job, they should just keep those people 5 more years.. but once you turn 60, every year until you turn 65, it is a 1-year contract each year, another words, companies have the power to keep them or let them go legally.

I feel bad for those who didn't get re-hired, but they'd have to look for a different job since they are already retired and the school has the power to choose who to rehire without letting people why they picked certain people.

The whole retirement thing here sucks, and I will be facing it fairly soon. Everyone should be able to work until they no longer can physically or mentally at their regular salaries, and be compensated even more for experience. It is insulting to lower someones salary, eliminate their bonuses, drop their travel allowance etc. I find it deplorable! Do the politicians that make these rules and continue to enforce them take salary cuts etc. when they hit 60? I do not think so!!!! This system needs to change, especially when people are living healthy way into their 80's. If you check average age levels for both men and women, minus the first year of life, you would be surprised at how old the people live here.

It's pretty easy to understand these teachers' grief. The song is more like a nursery rhyme than a national anthem. They don't even know who wrote it or when. It's a shocker!

Beats me how the Olympic Gold Medal winners don't nod off to sleep when they play this serious eye closer.
