Good if it can prevent further hatred among sensible neighbors.

Totalitarian regimes are great aren't they?

Prevent? This will only CAUSE further problems.

As long as China keeps trying to keep their people from knowing that the world isn't what the Chinese government tells them, they're not going to get along very well from any government that isn't also an oppressive government.

Even with censorship, Internet is one means of communication. There is many other means of communications and acquiring accurate information. There were over 83 million Chinese that traveled abroad last year, and within a short time, over 100 million Chinese will travel overseas so they have better first hand knowledge of other countries politics, regardless of censorship in their home country.

So what's the advantage from it if for the things that they had learned abroad they go to jail if they want to let others know? Or you're predicting a great revolt in China?

Shankun, the industrial revolution in China has been established for only 30 years. China has made significant progress in human rights in a few decade and this will continue. China has every right to proceed under their terms without outside interference. Last time I checked, Asahi is a guest to their country China, and they have to follow their rules and they also have option to leave. China is doing what they feel is best for their country and they have made much progress.

It seems like 100 years behind Japan. It might be a similar lesson...

Why bother with censorship? Japan has done a much better job at creating an illusion that the people receive all the free information that they can - by effectively controlling the entire media from the within. The Japanese bureaucrats completely control the Japanese media and they encompass virtually everything within the society. There's no point in censoring when the information that you receive is wrong in the first place.

If Japan or the USA or any other democratic country blocked a Chinese newspaper you would be screaming bloody murder. Human rights and allowing others to state their opinions should be a basic right in any civilized country; they are not in China.

China is just doing what it always did and does--censoring the news. No thinking person should be making excuses for that. China has a history going back 5000 years and claims to be one of the oldest "civilizations" in the world. If they have not learned how to act in a civilized manner yet, will they ever learn?

The great firewall of China is still climbing. It's really remarkable to see the amount of manpower and resources that China is pouring into keeping its people from cybering.

yes 83 millionj Chinese may have travelled but the vast majority will have treated overseas like a ginat theme park and the locals as inferior beings and will not have wanted to or actully klearned anything about them. Chinese tour groups are among the rudest tourists going.

The Chinese in this respect are rather primative, they should model the Americans, allow mainstream media and social networks but setup a National Security Agency and hack, steal and spy on everything that its citizens and non citizens are looking at and doing.

Japan and the Japanese people should worry about the censorship and the revision of their role in World War 2. The most uncivilized act is killing 10-20 million people in Asia by the Japanese to gain land in China, Korea, Philippines, Guam, Hawaii and the rest of the Pacific. Japan attacked the United States and Australia. You will never find this in their history books. You will only read about Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

PLEASE, most of the world is blocked, even Japantoday was blocked for a while.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Meanwhile most Chinese are living in poor conditions.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

so they blocked you, cry?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

asahi isn't the only one that gets blocked. Fox, CNN...etc all gets blocked from time to time if a sensitive issue was broadcast or posted. Its stupid and wrong but that's how they are. At least they tell you upfront not to commit certain kinds of broadcast or posts or you will get deleted or blackout. So its really not a secret. Its just one of those things you have to comply if you wish to do business in China. Or go else where to make your profits.

Asahi knew this going in. No point to argue or make demand when you knew what you're getting into. Those 1.3m followers probably are trolls anyways.
