Funazushi by itself is simply disgusting to most people. Even Adrew Zimmern, from Bizarre Food, couldn't put it down.

I kinda like it. As a condiment. In small amounts. Its pretty much tastes like surströmming or that the weird fermented shark from Iceland.

Actually the origin of sushi is the Mekong river and came via China to Japan. The Japanese contribution is to eat the fish together with the rice.

I've seen them smoking but not the cockroach part.
