    NeoJamal,

What has home-grown terrorism in Britain got to do with the atomic bombings of Japan? That's totally irrelevant and off topic, and for the sake of a lame attempt at point scoring I think you may be ignoring the subject here.

Also irrelevant are the rights and wrongs of the British Empire - as everyone well knows the Japanese "empire" was far less benevolent towards the people it enslaved, murdered and raped.

My comment was whether the kids are going to learn anything about the context of the bombing when they are in Hiroshima. Most of us have been to the Peace Museum and been horrified by the depiction of the effects of the bomb, but that is just one part of a much bigger story...

    As I said - I suspect not

    fair&what

I have been to HIroshima, it is hippy loving peace nonsense, claiming victim hood etc etc.

You can continue spreading your biased opinions on this forum and elsewhere all you like, but fortunately most of the millions of people who have visited this city and have a perspective on history will not share them.

A world without nuclear arsenals was mega terible than a world has nuclear arsenals. See what happened in Nanjiang 1938?

""OssanULTRA- Heck!! how do ou keep such an unbalanced and unbiased view on everything Japan. I have been to HIroshima, it is hippy loving peace nonsense, claiming victim hood etc etc."

I have been to Hiroshima several times and what you stated about it being a place for anti-American proganda is incorrect. Hiroshima is indeed a place which calls for peace and global nuclear non-proliferation.

Boy look at Japantoday with all the "nuclear" related stories just before August 6th and 9th. Is there no shame ?

These poor Brit students will be immersed in pro Japan propaganda, and anti US rhetoric.

US will be painted as the bad guy, when in fact Japan was the ultimate bad gut. Bombs ended the war in a glorious way, and showed the power of the US. The good guys won.

Excuse me nigelboy, but my two younger brothers, were both called up to fight in WW2.

They both wrer called up to fight nthe IMperial Japanese army in he far east.

My youngest brother George , died after being captured by the Japanese.

He was starved and then baten for months, for not obeying orders. THe Japanese did not recognise the Geneva convention.

My brother was innocent, he was ordered by the government to fight for his country.

Have a look at any WW2 history books and look for British troops comitting atrocities. You wont find them.

Youngman, nigelboy, the war was evil, the allied troops were mostly forced to fight. Do not try to change history mate, because i was alive at the time, and i know what was happening.

    Moderator: Stay on topic please.

Maybe they do. Maybe then don't. Maybe some of us are aware of the events leading up to the conflicts in NE Asia which includes unequal treaties, Hull Note bomb , etc. But the problem with the arguments here is that some want to just start where it's MOST convenient for their argument. (i.e. brutality, Pearl Harbor).

  • nigelboy at 06:07 PM JST - 2nd August

    Let's shift the argument.

Bombing innocent civilians is less brutal than X because Y.

  • helloklitty at 07:52 PM JST - 3rd August

It's a damn shame that the Japanese forced us to do that to them. But since it was necessary to win the war, I support Truman's decision.

I've always wondered why civilians should be off-limits. If we're at war, why should we not want to kill everyone in the enemy land?

BTW, has a linked been established between tooth abnormalities in Hiroshimans and exposure to atomic bomb radiation? We noticed so many young ladies with No. 5 and/or No. 12 fang-teeth on a recent visit to the backwoods.

OssanULTRA: I have been to Hiroshima several times and what you stated about it being a place for anti-American proganda is incorrect. Hiroshima is indeed a place which calls for peace and global nuclear non-proliferation.

I agree. I've been to the museum twice and I didn't come away with the impression that it was anti-American. They give a lot of information about the bomb including reasons why it was dropped. They also mention the Korean workers killed by the bomb who were there after being forced to work in Japan, an acknowledgment you don't often see from Japan. Overall I think the museum is done very well in that there is no anger and the message they try to give is one of non-proliferation. Nagasaki is a different story... If you want angry, see the museum there.

Hiroshima's problem is the ceremony, which is usually dripping with statements of Japanese victimization with a very hostile attitude against the US. It's pretty much the opposite of the museum.

More like, "British students visit Hiroshima to get a white-washed perspective of the war..."

  • nutsagain at 04:15 PM JST - 5th August

Any student worthy of the title, will quickly figure out the lopsided nature of the exhibition. Was it terrible? Of course... Was there a reason for the ferocity of the counter attack? Of course. They should figure it out as most people visiting Hiroshima do.

  • nutsagain at 04:18 PM JST - 5th August

Also, the only reason the exhibit mentions the 'Korean victims' was as a result of years and years of foreign pressure to have them included. I can't remember exactly when they were included but it was fairly recent.

  • RepublicofTexas at 01:10 AM JST - 6th August

Utter garbage. Hiroshima has never been a forum for anti-US anything, propaganda or otherwise.

I agree, nor is it a center for historical whitewashing.
