HONOLULU —
A 33-year-old Japanese woman drowned during a kayak tour on a river on the east side of Kauai Island, Hawaii, on Saturday, local authorities said Sunday. The Japanese Consulate General in Honolulu declined to disclose her identity on grounds that her family had not allowed it.
According to the local authorities, the woman was swept away by the river after returning from hiking to the kayak, which was tied up at a dock. Her body was found about two hours later. Sightseeing tours around waterfalls and caves in the Wailua River by kayaks and pleasure boats are popular tourist attractions on the island.

"the woman was swept away by the river after returning from hiking to the kayak, which was tied up at a dock."
this doesn't sound to me like "drowning while kayaking". or I got the English wrong

timeon, I think they mean that was her general activity when she died, not what she was physically doing.
