Non-snarky comment: Looks like a new form of beach combing is about to unfold...looking at piles of washed in junk for the next few years that might be something meaningful to return to Japan. There is a need for some sort of coordinator on this NOW. (Number One)
Snarky but well-meaning comment: If Noda succeeds in raising the danged tax rate (and I totally oppose this before seeing serious tax cutting in the government <>), some of that extra income should go to funding Number One above! (Number Two)

The first batch of stuff is unlikely to be radioactive, but the twentieth or thirtieth batch might be. I hope they're at least considering what to do in that eventuality. It probably won't be stuff directly from the nuke plant, but could easily be stuff coated by fallout from the event. Most of it would have headed east or northeast, I imagine, and could have settled on top of any floating debris.
