Tokyo Tower is dwarfed by the buildings around it, it was only a matter of time, but I wished that seeing as they going through all the trouble to build this, they might have tried to make it the world's tallest, oh well.

Agreed, it would be one thing if the tower resembled a tree, but...

Most gaijin agree that the name is weird. But my Japanese wife thinks its great. What I usually do is ask what she would think if a western country called something similar sora no ki, etc, and then she agrees it really is kind of strange. Suffice it to say that Japanese like the sound and image of sky tree. In the end its their country

Makes sense. A foreign word or phrase may sound cool, but when translated into one's own language it can sound pretty lame or nonsensical.

Tokyo Sky Tree. Simple, peaceful, and makes more sense with each puff of marijuana.

At least it's not convoluted like some naming of things. I'm surprised they didn't call it 'The new tower tall enough to transmit digital signals unobstructed by high-rise buildings'.

why can't japanese use ..I don't know...the japanese language to name their buildings??? Isn't this supposed to be a Tokyo landmark? How many trees in Tokyo anyway? Didn't think so... Maybe I'm wrong and this is a tree memorial?

Talked to a Japanese friend and we agreed the name is weird and not reflective of anything in Japan. Huh? Where's the pride?
