Well, I'm sure those three are happy to not have to be going to a very childish nation.

Petty and childish. What does China think they can gain by doing this?

Do they think Japan is going to say, "Forgive us. We'll give you the Senkaku's.??

    Petty, just petty.

You seems to see one side of story. Look at petty and childish behavior Japan is doing.

HRT's Chinese test driver Ma Qing Hua might have to sit out next weekend's Japanese grand prix.

According to Speed Week, the Spanish team intended the 24-year-old to drive Narain Karthikeyan's car during Friday morning practice at Suzuka next week.

But Ma Qing Hua is apparently having trouble securing a visa for entry to Japan.

China and Japan - Asia's two biggest economies - are locked in an escalating row over the disputed Diaoyu islands in the East China Sea.

the orchestra, which has over 90 members, would be able to perform even without the participation of the three Japanese.

And also without any sense of integrity or comradeship toward their Japanese colleagues.

The Peoples Republic is a petty government run by petty people. We will respond in kind to them. Japanese in China need to leave Communist China now.

  • 1

    Sabrage

It's best the three Japanese musicians do not enter China.

China is not safe for Japanese people right now.

They should also walk out of the descriminationof the Taiwanese 'Orchestra'.

This is a really terrible thing to do. Forgive me for sounding corny, but music should be something that brings people together. Countries will always have disputes about territories, treaties, and economic arrangements, but things like music should be what we experience to remind ourselves of our shared humanity and the beautiful things in life.

I hope Japan will not retaliate in any way when it comes to musicians.

IMO in the long run, all this childish fighting is going to hurt china more. Economicly and politically. China has a little money in the bank for the first time in 2000 years and now they think they don't need any friends.

Yeah, the communist government is really doing a good job of making fools of themselves lately. They've been taking lessons from Ishihara, no doubt.

The Japanese Grand Prix has been and gone. Unless I've missed something and Japan are now hosting it twice each race year...

It is best that the 3 Japanese musicians stay in Taiwan. If they participate, the Taiwanese orchestra will be very loudly booed by Chinese audience because of presence of Japanese members, and the Japanese members may be attacked like the Japanese who recently died of his injuries suffered during demonstrations. So after all it is a good idea.

This should be filed under Dopey News of the Day. Even at the height of the Cold War, the US and Soviets engaged in cultural exchanges. China is putting its immaturity on display before the entire world.

I'm not so sure of this. I would assume that an audience consisting for of all things a symphony orchestra is more sophisticated then that.

But hey, the Chinese always find a way to surprise you with their childish ways.

That has gone down in history. The commies with The Great Leap Forward were intent on the destruction of all art.

    thywillbedone

It is probably not so much as a desire to prevent Japanese from visiting red china, but a desire to shield the Taiwanese musicians from a likely first-hand display of vulgarity from Chinese audience members.

This of course would leave the Taiwanese with no uncertainty about the level of barbarity of their mainland China cousins, and cause the refined & cultured nature of their Japanese fellow musicians shine that much more brightly, as it does for us in the West.

Also, since when do Japanese need visa to visit China? I though they were issued automatically for 30 days. Anyway, no not visit China is NO loss for anyone.

  • -1

    smithinjapan

If there's no reason to deny them visas save out of spite over the island issue than I would say this is extremely petty and wrong. As well as harming relations it denies the musicians the chance to play and engage in grass roots exchange, as well as denying the listeners the pleasure of the music.

  • 1

    darknuts

This is to be expected from china but I'm dissapointed in the orchestra for going there despite this. Way to make them feel like part of the group.

And at the same time, Japan denied visas to some Chinese presenters who were speaking at a conference in Tokyo this week. However, they were resourceful enough to send audio recordings of the presentations as well as the slides, so the presentations still went ahead.

Bullies by their very nature depend on childish & petulant actions to somehow make up for their own insecurities. The Chinese government is nothing but a bully here, as well as on many other occasions (the recent IMF meetings in Tokyo come to mind), and the international community should diplomatically put them in their place. To the Sinophiles here, yes, of course, other countries' governments act childishly too at times, but first, that doesn't make it right, effective, or productive; and second, we aren't talking about the actions of other countries here (like Japan), now are we?

Governments around the world (and unfortunately by extension, the people they represent), namely China once again, need to grow up and earn the global respect they so dearly want. Bullying their way to get it will never work.

This kind of behavior is the reason why after the mighty Chinese Ming dynasty, China fell to an second/third rank country ! The Chinese government is not looking at its own and all the other East-Asian countries common intrests ! On the contrary, the European Union just got the Nobel Peace Prize for establishing peace and prosperity after WWII.

  • -1

    gregoryharuko

    @LinXiansheng

Ryukyu is independent nation during the mighty Ming Dynasty, paying tribute to both the Ming Emperors and the Satsuma Domain, and later to the Qing Emperors and the Meiji Emperor. Ryuky has of course a long connection with especially Fujian Province, but claiming Ryukyu to be an integral part of China is colonial imperialism !

  • 1

    gregoryharuko

The European Union was being constructed in 1951, only 6 years after WWII, between former enemy countries like France, Germany, Italy,... The European Union just rightly got this year Nobel Peace Prize for creating peace and prosperity in Europe. Now the Chinese and Japanese governments are still fighting each other almost 70 years after WWII ! Who are the stupid children now?

  • -1

    gregoryharuko

The Taiwan National Ochestra should use this opportunity to teach history to the ignorant mainland Chinese. Explain about Koxinga, who remained loyal to the Han Ming Emperors, fighting against the Manchu Qing emperors! Koxinga was born near Nagasaki to a Chinese father and a Japanese mother. His father gave in to the Manchus, but his mother Lady Tagawa, came all the way from Kyushu to fight until dead beside her son, for the survival of the once mighty Ming dynasty!
