Great for these relief team members for their selfless sacrifice and care for others in time of need. Let those who have never donated one penny or spent a minute of their time helping those who are suffering from natural disasters, cast their senseless remarks. The rest of us know that in times of need nationality means nothing, helping their fellow men is what it is all about. Great for them.
For many around the world it is about saving and helping people in need and a commitment to just that. For China. it is about face and public relations in the face of the world, not about lives. This is the true facts about the government of China because still the people have not a voice but still the servants of the government.
I do feel sadness for the people and the lose of life , especially the sorrow felt by family members as some are shown in the pics coming out of China, very sad and so many innocent lives lost, but even though the government has proven time and time again the thoughtless acts against its people, I am certain the people in the military that is there helping those in need really feel the grief that the government official are far a distance from.. That is because of the ruthless leadership China still has and all the CCP is based on is power at any cost. This has been their stance from the beginning of there take over.
I do have no sympathy for the leaders of China but do have sympathy for the victims of the earthquake and sympathy for all that are ruled by the CCP that know no better other than what they have been allowed to know about history and past and present events in China and of the world.
An earthquake 7.9 on the Richter scale would devastate most towns/cities in the Asia-Pacific region. What needs more scrutiny is a breakthrough in earthquake detection since earthquake resistant construction is impractical on a large scale. Need the best minds at least in the Asia-Pacific to intensify research into earthquake detection. This breakthrough would also help in better volcano activity analysis and tsunami detection. It seems climate change will exacerbate natural disasters of the past, so we need to work harder in detection. Japan's disaster relief team couldn't prevent the disaster in the Kobe earthquake, but they can save more lives from the experience they gained. This applies to those going into China now to help out.
I don't think Japan alone can make the breakthrough, but a consortium of experts have a chance.
And why isn't anybody mentioning the fact that China's dodgy construction techniques helped turn this natural disaster into a calamity? I'm more than sure you all would be doing just that had this happened in Japain!!! On another note, good for Japain for helping; China will need all the help they can get; according to the BBC the number of dead is already around 50k and rising.
"For many around the world it is about saving and helping people in need and a commitment to just that. For China. it is about face and public relations in the face of the world, not about lives."
You have no idea what you are saying.
If you read the folowing link from BBC, then you'd understand the scale of this, and the scale of the problem. The Chinaese government have already sent out more than 100,000 troops, the redcross have also sent out many to help as well as other groups and organisations. Sabing lives and reaching diificult places where people may be is their aim..
If you consider the one-child policy of CHina, there is a school affected by the quake and the teachers and all the children perished, pratically a whole generation lost.. another small city of population of 10,000 now remains 3000 people..
So TonyUS for you to be making such comments from your arm chair is both wrong and ignorant. It is not about saving face or anthing like you mentioned, they are helping and are also neding foreign help suh is the scale of the damage to people, infrastructure etc..
I think it's fantastic that they sent in a relief team. Shows their continual effort to better relations. I commend them and shum all posters here who take this as another way to bash Japan.
I agree wiht the article on response right after the quake. Perhaps more people would have been saved had countries gone in soon after than a week or two later.
Anyway, it wouid be great if a US Nuclear ship were allowed entry. They have all sorts of capabilites it's amazing what those ships have in terms of relief efforst and even a hospital, food, and maasive amounts of energy to power it all.
Above all, Thanks very much for Janpan's kindly help during this sad quake disaster. Thanks from my heart.
I'm from China. Many people in Japan maybe not like China. Or not like Chinese government and these large number brain-washed people. I,although as a Chinese, also do not like our one party controlled government. Also I admit some Chinese people are now lack of honest, selfish and something you said national. But please think of China's short time of development just from feudality, long time of revolution, its large district and so many people. In China also have many good person. Just like during this time's disaster. Many people volunteer to go to offer help. Some Taxi drivers of that province drive a long way there to take wounded people. Some rescuer have no tool but their hands to claw .Everytime reading these reports I almost drop tears.
I hope in the future all the people around the globe no matter white, black or yellow are equal. No discriminate No country no boundary and of course no war. It's a long way to go but we could do something right?
Thanks for Japan again.

US Naval capability for diaster assistance isn't limited to "nuclear" vessels. But more importantly, take a look at a map to see how far
inland Szechwan province is from the coast. I'd think massive inland
airlift capability is what the Chinese need here.
After reading the latest white papers and research papers on earthquakes and detection methods, there has yet one to be found. The best methods can only predict within a decade at best. From that I believe we are a long ways from finding an effective method anytime soon, unless Governments start dumping sums of money into this research. I personally believe it is just not enough.
From the reports, the earthquake lasted 3 minutes. That's a long time. I did some calculations of my own, and a 7.9 richter scale for three minutes is roughly the same as a 9.32 for 30~45 seconds. I may be wrong, kinda rusty with the math. So even if the buildings were designed to withstand powerful earthquakes, it would eventually collapse.
rebuilding will be kind of tough for china after this.

Nice post and I agree with you very strongley about your description of the people of China. Although I do not like the leadership at the present time and what they stand for. God bless the people of China and Myanmar.

That's great for Japan. Every little bit helps. It's not a pleasant job searching under rumble for bodies.

MPLs I do know the scale of devistation, and that does not change the CCP.
You think in one day's time the CCP did a complete turnaround on its way of rule?? Give me a break!
And many are waiting and waiting for the go ahead to go in and help. You should read more articles.
