When did China buy AFP?

strategically located island chain known as Diaoyu

What is strategical about its location?

long-running diplomatic dispute between China, Japan and Taiwan.

Wrong! "Dispute" started only after gas.oil was found.

Two Chinese patrol boats recently conducted a mission to monitor “illegal” oil and gas extraction projects

AFP knows that there are no projects but says nothing.

to monitor “illegal” oil and gas extraction projects

The only part of the illegal activity is being conducted by China....Is it monitoring itself?

Escalation of provocation. Send the rice back.

"Dispute" started only after gas.oil was found.

The dispute started after America, which was the occupying power, turned the rocks over to Japan. Before that Japan took them during the Sino-Japanese War. Both that event and the discovery of gas and oil happened about the same time. To completely disregard one for the other is really only proof of bias.

China will increase maritime surveillance in a group of disputed islands in the East China Sea to guard its territorial rights. No problem with that but you and your fishermen are the one pouching.

Time for Japan to step up patrols with our ships. Time to send in the self defense force.

Ah Japan getting upset about another country doing something around some island that Japan claims, a claim very few, if any other countries actually recognise. Funny Japan doesn't give a rats about other nations eez's or claims yet expect others to bend over backwards and respect their claims. Good one Japan l love the hypocrisy!!!

Cletus, these islands have been part of Okinawa for centuries. Since Okinawa is part of Japan, they are part of Japan.

That's strange... I would think that there are more countries (including USA) that would support Japan's claim as opposed to any other country recognizing the supposed claim by China...

As a matter of fact, most countries in Oceanea recognize that China is notoriously known for exaggerating its claims for territories and starting skirmishes, whether it be for Tibet, Vietnam, India, Spratleys or Senkaku...

Funny you should say that because while the US State Department recognises Japan as the administrator of the islands it actually admits China's claim to the islands is stronger than Japans. Which is why it is staying out of the arguments. Because it was the one that gave the islands back to Japan after WW2

Oops there goes your argument....

But Yuri you are always saying Okinawa is not part of Japan and Okinawan's are not Japanese so how does your argument work?

Just wait and I am sure China will start erecting their military forces on that disputed islands same as what they did with the Spratly Islands being disputed by other countries. And don't try to go near cuz the chinese military are trigger happy. In the disputed Spratly Islands, chinese miltary have killed vietnamese fishermen and have fired shots at Philippine's Navy Patrol boats. What the hell is UN for.

Does China wants to have esclating conflict with U.S.? Last year, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton emphasized the security aspects of the U.S.-Japan relationship, and Clinton also drew China’s ire by bluntly saying the Senkakus “fall within the scope of Article 5 of the 1960 U.S.-Japan Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security.”

If you Google map the Spratly Islands, you will know who really owns those islands. And, no, they are no where near Okinawa.

Senkaku, on the other hand, I really don't know who it belongs to.
