Good on the Japanese coast guard! Hopefully the Chinese will back off a little bit now.

Yeah and for gods sake lets hope the Chinese nationalists dont use this as propaganda that for example Japan set fire to the boat or something.

Wonder how it would have turned out, had it been the other way round?

Do not count on it. The communist controlled media in China will not allow this news to be known, since it is a "gross violation" against their interests and a matter of "internal matter" (Chinese style of conversation). Cheers.

i was waiting for a day like this. let the world know about it, that chinese were saved by japanese. surely this news will spread through other means, even if the commy government tries to block it.

I knew those water cannons were good for something.

Wow, look at all the snide comments at the expense of Japan. You guys look down on China but then turn around and make issues and comments when none are needed. Bravo.

It is reported at China Daily website, anyway just continue with the bashing.

If the shoe was on the other foot I wonder if China would have helped?

The nationality of the crew aside, the Japanese Coast Guard performed its duties superbly and saved lives! Good job guys!

The Western World of freedom, democracy, moral and rightous has taken on a habit of bashing China. How ignorant.... China is just as thugish, full of popuganda, gross violations, un-civilised, etc as the rest of the Western World or any part of the world for that matter. The US in particular are no better!

Great work Coast Guards for showing un-biase in a proud line of work! Race, age, sex, etc... all are equally human, equally deserving of rescue.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

It`s their job to rescue them. Nationality is irrelevant.

The communist controlled media in China

Daily is for foreign audience, anyway just continue with the bashing.

Well done. Happy to know all lives were saved.

Anyone know did this story appear in the Chinese media?

Maybe pointless to speculate on what the Chinese would have done under similar circumstances. But I'd think probably the same as what the JCG did. When lives at sea are at stake diplomatic differences are set aside.

gogogo: " the shoe was on the other foot I wonder if China would have helped?"

I bet they would have. The people on the ship in question weren't involved in the politics, and an extreme kudos to the coast guard here for doing an awesome job. I believe China would have done the same thing -- in a similar situation in which they didn't start the fire, they would have a chance to be the better for putting it out and/or saving the people, and it would be the humanitarian thing to do. This won't solve any issues between the two nations, but hopefully it'll ease some of the tensions and pave the way towards a bit of cooperation instead of further rhetoric.

As for anyone who thinks to gloat about this, you're just spouting the kind of propaganda you claim to be against. The coast guard did their job, and did it well, putting politics aside and saving lives. Nothing more need be said about it except congratulations to them.

Wow... people giving thumbs down for praising the Japanese coast guard! Obviously their priorities are in order. :)

Well sad smith. The anti-Chinese feelings on here are pretty pathetic. People bashing a vihntry for bashing Japan. Pot. Kettle. Black.

I have zero doubts the Chinese wouldn't do the same. Not everyone is as petty as some of you appear to be.

Haven't you seen fire or smoke from scraps of materials like mountain? If scraps are included some broken car battery, things wet soaked with gasoline, kerosene, some kinds of chemicals with metals, it will make fire sooner or later. I have seen such fire or smoke from huge piles of scraps like mountain on dump sites in China. They should have been more careful about scraps of metals.

The CCP won't blink at hearing the JCG rescued Chinese people.

Good on Japan.

Not only the Chinese and the Japanese coast guard have done what they should be done to help disress ppl in the sea's. Other country coast guard have done their share to rescue the ppl in distress in the sea's. Salute to all coast guards of the world.

Don't hold your breath if you are waiting for a "thank you" from the PRC.

Instead the PRC propaganda machine will try and spin this a whole lot different.

Most like they will try to claim that the Japanese started the fire on the ship.

antolop111Sep. 29, 2012 - 04:41PM JST Not only the Chinese and the Japanese coast guard have done what they should be done to help disress ppl in the sea's.

The story is about the Japanese Coast Guard saving Chinese sailors, no where does it mention the PRC's Coast Guard.

Can't you even say, thank you?

Why do you guys always try and spin things in your direction?

Who thanks whom?

Anything said about the saved not thankful to the Japanese coast guard?

Go ask the Taiwanese.

Go ask them what their fishermen have been getting from decades ago when they signal SOS near mainland coast.

Please do ask them if there has ever been a case where they were allowed to sink on their own.

If you read a bit more carefully I was replying to antolop111 and not to the Chinese sailors that were saved by the brave Japanese Coast Guard.

At no time did he (antolop111) try to even praise the actions of those Japanese Coast Guard rescuers, but rather he attempted to minimize their efforts.
