Told you it's going to get into routine:) Nevertheless good work, timing report, fresh feed from coast guard.

Very revealing last three paragraphs, keep up the good work.

I guess this is chinas way saying thank you for saving 64 of their people.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Really easy, they confiscate the ships and turn them to scrap, then charge all the crew with illegal immigration.

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

Prodding, prodding, prodding.... the Chinese communist government just can´t get over the fact that Japan is not a pushover like the Philippines, which just meekly protested whie China annext Philippine island groups.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Guess we won't be hearing base removal demands from Okinawa for a few days.

basroil: "then charge all the crew with illegal immigration."

'Immigration'? Illegal entry, maybe.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

And anyway, basroil, confiscation of the ships, and especially charging the Chinese with anything and not deporting them, would be playing right into Beijing's hands. Best to let them trumpet and shake their little fists and ignore them.

That is a patrol ship? It looks like a rental boat. It is all rusty and looks like it cannot keep up with a Japanese patrol boat. The Japanese coast guard should chase it making it run out of fuel so that everyone on-board would have to get out and paddle the boat by hand back to China.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Resurfaced: "The Japanese coast guard should chase it making it run out of fuel so that everyone on-board would have to get out and paddle the boat by hand back to China."

Why would they have to paddle by hand? Expressing a little bit of hatred there, are we? Regardless, the coast guard won't do anything but leave it to the J-media to panic.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

I have a solution. There are 8 rocks, are there not? Well, why not get Tokyo, China, S.Korea and Taiwan around a table and divide them up, two each? Janken for them if you want.

Why would they have to paddle by hand? Expressing a little bit of hatred there, are we?

So by Resurfaced's use of that expression it constitutes as 'hatred.' Why does it boil down to an emotional response from you? Kinda like what those sappy korean soaps try to elicit.

Anyway, this is China's way of showing that they're not softening their stance on the issue despite the JPN coast guard's saving of those Chinese a few days ago. Likewise, the former shouldn't back down either and stand their guard. Once you give an inch China will take a mile and then some. Same issue is happening with the Philippines and Vietnam.

I apologize to all readers for being a jackass.

Not doing anything also plays into their hands you know, it lets the Chinese know they can send their war ships in and nobody will say anything until it's too late. Another option is to warn all ships and countries that there are automatic countermeasures in the water, and then anchor a few mines in the path the chinese ships normally take. That would be far worse than confiscating ships like they have done in the past.

'Immigration'? Illegal entry, maybe.

There are many immigration laws INCLUDING entry. In this case they would be running afoul of entry, customs declarations, sanitation, etc.

No, one is an island by all legal definitions (can support human and animal life, has fresh water source, etc). The remainder fall within territorial or contiguous waters around that one (or another that is within territorial or contiguous waters)

Well both countries vice Foreign Minister are meeting. This is a good sign.

For the paranoids that jumped at any conclusion on whenever they read these sort of reports should really have a cold shower first. After all this is in dispute and very likely that this will continue for sometimes.

As with the two fishing boats they are in contiguous water which is free and legal for any boats or ship to use.

As mihikokada had commented regarding the positive sign of possible reconciliation "keep up the good work"

shiofuki

that is the chinese strategy.

guess if a stranger with a knife on his hand comes your garden everyday and claims a part of it is his props. unfortunately, since there is no police around you so you would give up and find a compromise. once you give up, such a guy will ask you again more.

Thanks to Ishihara! everyone is free to sail to Daoyutai isles right now~

is china testing how brave japan is ? if not china is going to rope off the islands , and it will tell japan not to get close or into its territory as same as it did to philippines . could japan use the UN LAW OF SEA to answer and react to china ? i think china made products can not compare to the japan made weapon , if this is a good case and also a good chance then japan should teach china a lesson name " how to learn in a real battle at sea ". the bull minded and none war experienced china really needs to take this lesson seriously , lol

Looks like the incursion was just a diversion. Or a test. Practically everything they are doing is textbook pre-invation tactics.

Japan and China should just TALK already. It's funny, after the war they used to talk and they were on pretty good terms with each other. Now the Japanese politicians just stay isolated within their own country and bark but do not bite.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I really feel the frustration for the Japanese.

This is like having Roaches in your kitchen, getting rid of them, and then a month later the Roaches come back.

Good Job to the JCG for "Shooing Away" those Infesting Varmints.

BTW: I'm still waiting for China to show the world these incredibly Rare Fish that can not be caught anywhere in the South or East China Sea, but only near the Senkakku Islands...

The PRC is testing the resolve of Japan. If Japan gives in now, there will be no end of it.

Smith the Marines in Okinawa will play a very small part if any.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I would put money on there already being a covert infiltration in progress, surveying the grounds so that they can pull off a rapid setup of a garrison, er, research station. Yes, that's it, a research station, armed, er, staffed, with soldiers, damn it, innocent civilian scientists. Beijing is betting on Japan being unwilling to fire the first shot.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Think you are right Jeff and that makes this so dangerous. Think the US should put some Marines on those islands as a Peacekeeping" force. Once the PRC realizes they can not grab them things will calm down.

'Civilian' those 'maritime surveillance vessels' are not. They have been more aptly described as 'quasi-military' vessels. You'll notice that the Chinese Navy just conducted 'joint exercises' with these 'civilian maritime patrol agencies': http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/0eb9e91a-19be-11e2-a379-00144feabdc0.html#axzz2AJzU1ozi

This is the tactic being used by the Chinese govt: they send in those 'Maritime Surveillance vessels' and wait for a reaction. They also did this in the Philippines just a few months back.

If the nation they just 'invaded' reacts aggressively they can accuse that nation of being the war-monger,

If the invaded nation doesn't then they start by planting a plaque or a flag on the disputed islands. They can then claim a basis for their supposed sovereignty.

If the invaded nation then comes and removes that plaque/flag, China would then claim belligerence on the part of the invaded nation.

Communist Chinese leaders are working out with old strategy. The provocation will lead to Communist Chinese force occupying the Senkaku Island. Japanese Government should not ignore latest Communist Chinese action. Japanese Navy must show it strength to crazy Communist Chinese Leaders. Communist Chinese leaders may do something crazy for to change direct of it peoples attention on current political scandal on top. Communist Chinese Government always though they are upper hands when come to deal with Japanese because Japanese can not move their businesses investment in Communist China straightaway and Japan can not afford to lose it investment opportunity in Communist China. Japan must use cleaver strategy and must not allow Communist occupying Senkaku Island. Japanese Companies should be starting moving their business somewhere else and cooperate into some western foreign firms from now.

@ XianDC Oct 25 11.50pm

Now that's an interesting way of looking at it.

By the same token using the same analogy doe this apply to Phllipines changing the name of South China Sea

0 ( +0 / -0 )

yeah I have to agree with what some of you guys think. When the Chinese government states an area is its sovereignty that MEANS IT IS THEIR SOVEREIGNTY and will make an action if the any other country decides to set up a base there. And I think they're testing what the JCG will do. Hopefully if confrontation leads to escalation.. we'll see a pretty water fight rather than a real game of Battleship.

Neville Chamberlain could not of said it any better, you must be channeling his ghost as usual.

The, "let them have it while we negotiate" tactic never works with bullies. It just gives them time to get their claws in deeper. The world tried to negotiate with the Germans before WW II and all they got was war. A strong response is what is required and what the PRC does not expect.

The PRC may have a large fleet, but it is made up mostly of old Soviet era targets and landing crafts. The PRC will backdown if confronted by force and if they were to counter by attacking they would lose faster than you could say,"huh".

As with most if not all bullies, the momement you stand up to them that's the moment they back-down. The PRC is no different, they act big and bad because now they have a mighty carrier, but that carrier has no teeth, no planes.

Meet force with equal or greater force and your bullies goes off running crying.
