Who would be the first to open fire? It would be interesting to see how many countries would rush in to pull them apart. It's a cat and mouse game, now who is the fat over-sized mouse?

flowers could be either side really all it takes is a little mistake. The question is in case of war will Communist China attack the bases on Okinawa? Of course they could attack at any time. Red China might want to take 40 or 50 k Americans as hostages. The key is not to let them gain Air and Sea supremacy.

These chinese coastal guards ships on its routine patrols are unarmed, unlike the japanese ones.

It's already becoming routine matter, I believe no one will open fire if JCG keep holding temper. Also, CN won't be so stupid to attack US bases even if JP open fire. US would never involve himself in this tiny issue so why would CN attack US bases? It's clear that nowadays no one will take initiative action to confront the US power.

YuriOtani: "The question is in case of war will Communist China attack the bases on Okinawa?"

Obviously the cause of any war that occurs will have been the result of Ishihara's actions in April, which have started this whole downward spiral. The cause of any shooting/violence that could trigger full out warfare would be the result of the pettiness and childishness of both nations' governments, and no just one side. China believes it is operating in its own waters, while Japan believes China is not (hence it is a DISPUTE). If Japan fires shots at a Chinese ship in what they claim are Japanese waters, then they of course fire the first shots.

Anyway, must be a confusing time for some Okinawans. On the one hand they KNOW they need the US presence to hide behind in light of what China is doing and WOULD do if the US were not there, but on the other hand you have a few whiners suggesting the US leave due to the various and terrible incidents three troops have committed.

Japan is also pumping this issue simply for the sake of publicity -- anything that takes away from a looming election and Noda's lack of popularity, as well as the fact that Japan STILL cannot take proper care of the people suffering from the disasters of last year, is a welcome distraction that can unify the people.

iWorld what makes you think the Japanese Coast Guard ships carry no weapons?

Look on the bright side. All that wasted fuel, etc.

And they're not doing their reputation any favors either.

    Stay classy China!

The Japanese Coast guard were exhausted in the 'boat chasing with Chinese government ships'! Japan shall not getting US supports in action due to the public outrages of gang-raping in Okinawa! Why did the Japanese government cancel the drill of 'island retaking'? Because their plan was not feasible

And Japan is losing her legitimacy of claiming the senkaku isles as Chinese government ships intensified her presence at sea!

The longer this sort of activity is carry on the risk of some form of conflict is higher, maybe both country should admit that this is a dispute so as to allow negotiation to proceed in a more mature manner

In the interest of furthering the idea of sharing around, turn up early one morning and burn some tsunami debris on the islands. China will never come back.

There's already enough tension among Asian countries. Just hope no one would read some partial news, make some stupid comments and add fuel to this fire. From what i hear, most Japanese and Chinese do want smooth the dispute and go back to their normal lifes. WORLD PEACE is good for everyone.

These islands are Japanese territory, by internationally recognized treaty. It is Japan's right and its duty to defend its territory.

It's time to stop dicking around with Coast Guard ships. Send in the Maritime Self-Defense Force. Harass the Chinese ships without firing on them. Buzz them with low-flying jets. Do something other than just sit back and hope they stop. Or they'll show up one day with occupying troops.

Seems like most people makeing extreme comments or trying to stur things up are neither Japanese or Chinese. People in these two countries should really take a good look in this before becoming (or already became) a pawn due to its blind patriotism.

Government patrol ships, it seems obvious it is just a matter of time before china reclaims the islands since japan is reluctant to act more authority.

  • -1

    RaidenX

I am curious about china's reaction towards japan if by chance the islands are administered by china, my guess neutralise all intruders.

John Becker It is a matter of military prowess other than world recognition, china holds the advantage in case of a military confrontation and a full scale war would harm japan more than china.

Such stupid comments from people that know nothing. China will take the islands? No they won't. Japan owns them legally. If China trys to take them the U.S will step in, China is simply all talk no action.

China the new world super power RaidenX? You think you know everything? Lol I think you have been watching too much youtube. China is a trade income country, the U.S is a military income country.

If there was a war, the world would suport the U.S the only people supporting comunnist China would be North Korea and the other 3rd world countries.

So in closing... Let me tell some facts straight from my mouth, a Japanese dude. With a clear mind.

Japan bought the islands of Japanese nationals who owned the islands...which the U.S handed over to...dum dum..JAPAN. Which China never cared about....untl they realized money was there... Now grumpy money hungry China that leaves half it's people in sweat shops dying just to eat rice...and lowers the qaulity of the worlds products...and takes OUR jobs wants the islands for money money.

    The end.

It appears certain people are less naive or perhaps ignorent to accept reality perhaps these people are japanese fan, Cortes Elijah i have no time to lecture you but a word of advice learn more about the details instead of posting rediculous and contradicting comments, ok for start the islands are administered by japan which means it falls under the jurisdiction of japan and any violation grants the right of defence and for a 14th straight day of chinese intrusion it seems japan is too cowardice to even threaten the chinese patrol ships and the reason is simple it would create a pretext in favour of china to reclaim the islands by force and further more china is a military super power that could even apply a blockade over america through the pacific so go study first.

China is calling for Japan to renounce its purchase of the Senkaku Islands. That's all China is asking, that the Japanese government not own the Senkakus. Apparently, China was not concerned with a Japanese family owning the islands as long as it was a private ownership that said nothing of sovereignty. For that reason, I propose that Japan, the government, sell me, a private citizen of the world and not , the Senkaku Islands for one US dollar and one Taiwan dollar and one yen and one yuan. I will then hold the islands as a public trust until wiser heads prevail. Seriously, Japan, this is how you get out of that predicament. You still get to patrol the waters of the Senkakus, as the 1971 treaty gave you authority to do. China will patrol for some months afterwards but get tired of the exercise, since they'll have nothing to gain as regards sovereignty. You know my price. Pay it. Free yourself from economic warfare with your greatest client.

With this American dollar, which is backed by the entire might of the American financial system; with this Taiwan dollar, which is backed by the entire might of the Taiwanese financial system; with this yen, which is backed by the entire might of the Japanese financial system; with this yuan, which is backed by the entire might of the Chinese financial system--I buy the Senkaku Islands as my own. May you respect my rights to personal property!

Maybe you should move to China. It becomes quite clear that China does not value long term friendship. It has switched or abandoned its friends when it is convenient or useful to do so. The old pre-historic ways still stay strong in China. As you will notice, many of the international community is starting to have second thoughts on any additional future investments in China. Places like Vietnam, India, and other countries are starting to look alot more attractive in investment then China. The recent trend casts doubt on the idea that economics is China’s principal concern.

i love japan but the nationalisation of the islands was reckless because china is prompted to even start a war since this could even stir a revolution in china against the communist regime it is a matter of national pride and survival.
