What????? The guy averaged about 4,300 visits a day, or over 500 times an hour, to these sites, based on 20 work days a month/8 hours per day. And he was only demoted, and his name was witheld????? He could not have possibly been doing anything else but viewing these sites. Any bets that a fair share may also have had kiddy porn involved. Yup, things will never change here.

I was wondering why he wasn't terminated, but I guess its because its a government job. Dang, I also guess that they haven't heard of business monitered internet access nor Admistration control. Heck, even at my job I can't even check out some CNN videos because of internet restrictions.

780,000 times over 9 months ! Promote him. That's overtime man.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

figuring a 21-day work month, that works out to over 4100 times a day

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And it seems his colleagues and superiors never noticed that he never got any work done! I bet they all erased their "web browser’s history".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

hahahahhahha i think than is guy did a lot of overtime

after to jerseyboy

go to porn sites is not A CRIME

so he stole his salary but it's all. Anybody is hurted.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

jersey,

There is no evidence at this stage that he was looking at child porn. That's a heavy accusation to make, seeing as a large number of guys have no issue with looking at adult porn on the net sometimes. There is an ocean of difference between the two.

Good thing this guy didn't stroke out (no pun intended) at his desk. Otherwise, we taxpayers would then have been required to pay his family compensation as this would be considered a work-related death.

Demoted at work but promoted in the Guiness Records!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Demoted? Not fired? Unbelievable? Although accessing porn sites is not a crime (depending on where you are - I wouldn't try it in some Muslim countries), the simple fact of the matter is that in doing so, this guy was not working (you know, that inconvenience that he is being paid for). As such, he should be sacked and his employer should seek reimbursement for any monies he was paid for "working."

On the other hand, child porn is criminal. BUt, I won't hold my breath vis-a-vis the local plod doing anything about it.

PS. How could somebody access 170,000 porn sites in a month. In addition to the risk of permanent damage to one's eyesight and repetition strain injury of the hands and other body parts, I don't see how this is humanly possible. Then again, this guy might be the Japanese incarnation of John Holmes or Ron Jeremy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

As for how so many, when you open a porn site sometimes it opens about 10 other sites immediately,a dn you have to close them all to get to the intended stuff.... so I hear.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

780,000 times? I'm guessing the virus did that through contacting home. Still, kind of an idiot though. That's what personal computers are for! I guess he was thinking with a body part other than his brain. Even a rough estimate puts it at 3000 times a day (in say an 9 hour period that's around 340 times an hour on the low end). A little implausible; but not impossible: could it be page views?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

to timorborder

hahahah it's afraid a japanese incarnation of ron jeremy

But japan is not a muslim country. after who said than is guy get to child porn site?

I agree than this guy must be fired and must reimburse all their salary.

this guy get to see a psy quickly.

I would think that persistent gross ineptitude would be plenty of grounds for dismissal, even in the absence of any illegal activity.

Although accessing porn sites is not a crime

But I suspect using a government computer to do so is. I wonder what his punishment would have been if he instead accessed JT 780,000 times.

probably nothing he can say than it's to study english.

This one made me laugh out loud.

Of course the public (whose tax money pays his salary) will shrug the shoulders and move on with the day.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Did he have any time at all to do any real work in his job? Have they checked that? Or is that not a requirement in government jobs?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

hey - nice work, if you can get it. and NOBODY noticed he wasn`t doing his job?!?!?!??!?!? you gotta hand it to government workers no matter the country.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

so any body noticed he wasn't doing his job. but if this guy do is work as he go to the porn site he will maybe become the best worker in the world. this story is fun

Question is not whether a porn website is legal or illegal,or officer may or may not surf it,the problem is he surfs it during working hours!anyway,if such a website can preventing him frm inponent so early.i blink my eyes!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nothing wrong with looking at kittens.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not an unexpected indecent act in a society that withholds name, age and designation ...Because he is a civil servant?! This is how tax payers are overloaded with various tax burdens. That ultimately corrupts the whole society.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Waki said, adding that the man accessed porn sites 170,000 times in July alone. Haha that's the kind of sarcasm i'd use if i was pee'd off with such as accusation! Hmm I wonder how many workers had his login details then..

viewing pornographic websites more than 780,000 times during office hours over a nine-month period

oh sure! a 9 hour period? come on! we all know he did this during the extra 9 hours of unpaid, pointless overtime he worked. God knows I would have done it too under that kind of mental stress. Anything to escape....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"more than 780,000 times during office hours over a nine-month period"

Lessee, if the guy "works" 5 days a week, according to my calculations, that's 4333 times a day. Perhaps it was 7,800 times over the 9 months? That would take it down to 43 times a day...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm thinking the civil service IT admins just did a simple grep of the logs and counted the number of distinct http requests. There could be many per page view. However, how much time and money did they waste restoring and analyzing all the logs from nine months of backups just for this? Now that is the real waste! And why did it take 9 months to find?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If he were to peep at porn and then clear the pc's history, would they still be able to catch him somehow?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So what is the average for civil servants to access porn sites during working hours?none? check all the computers, the answer may be some kind of different.ha ha ha. But 780,000 times in nine months?...this guy must be a born- champion.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well one thing's for sure. The office has high-speed Internet.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What crock, no harm in what he did. People do it all the time.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It seems to me that every computor in every government office should have a porn blocker installed. Maybe this would save the tax payer thousands of dollars used to pay for overtime.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

so any body noticed he wasn't doing his job. but if this guy do is work as he go to the porn site he will maybe become the best worker in the world. this story is fun

If he were to peep at porn and then clear the pc's history, would they still be able to catch him somehow, a friend wants to know?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

that my friends is a lot of porn. I wonder if 170,000 times in July means the number of times he went to a porn site or the number of images viewed? Either way this guy couldn't have had time for much else.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

appropriate ad running in the google space above "overcome porn with jesus" sounds kind of kinky

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Despite his frequent porn viewing, none of his colleagues noticed his activities.

Yeah, but they wouldn't shake his hand or borrow his stapler, either.

Come on, NO ONE noticed?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Along with the demotion, he received a 20,000 yen monthly pay cut, Waki said.

I might ask my boss if I pay Y20,000 a month can I look at porn 170,000 times a month..

Yet again, Japan Today has only produced a snippet of the actual full story. I have read this same story on a well-known UK news site this evening and the amazingly high number of hits is due to the fact that one click on most porn sites then produces automatic multiple windows and therefore multiple hits on the computer history from just the one click. That would make sense, as we were all trying to work out how someone could look at so many sites in that time.

How come the UK news site gave the full story and yet again Japan Today doesn't ?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He should look for another job...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I can't believe some of you guys are defending this person!

Most companies frown upon personal use of the office equipment such as using the telephone to call your friends or family on non-related business. Surfing the internet to check your email is also a bad idea. Checking out porn is just plain stupid when you're on a company computer. I'm sure most people are forgiving if were an isolated incident, but in this fellows case it's obviously a habit regardless if one click generates multiple hits. He's damn lucky he wasn't just fired for mis-using company equipment.

I think a lot of other people need to be careful as well, regardless of the content. Surfing the internet for personal interest on company time is just asking for trouble! Oh..I better go, the boss is coming!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

How come the UK news site gave the full story and yet again Japan Today doesn't ?

Agree !!!

A couple of my co-workers would probably admire this guy.

Just don't ask why.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

At least he's not like other guys and groping co-workers or talking dirty to them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This guy might think of a change of career. With a forehand like that, there is probably a future in professional tennis player. Imagine the backspin he could put on the ball. Sorry, I digress......

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He was found out as his computer had a virus (according to the BBC site, JT take note) and had to be examined. His number of hits translates to up to 20 a minute. Obviously this is not possible. Maybe the number was extrapolated, or the virus did it, or, heaven forfend, sensational journalism. Just like when there is a drug bust the value of the dope is 10 times what anyone would pay.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

How did they come up with that number? There is no way looking at his web history is accurate to get this number? Sounds like the virus made his PC visit those sites.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In another article about this guy in another country, they give his name and say that he surfed porn sites for up to four hours a day. So I think the 780,000 number was pulled out of someone's ... hat.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If he were to peep at porn and then clear the pc's history, would they still be able to catch him somehow, a friend wants to know?

Yes.

And depending on what criteria they use to count "accesses", 780,000 might not be such an unbelievable number. Cooked a little to make the story more interesting, maybe, but not impossible. If each page has a few dozen thumbnailed pictures and each picture is counted toward the total, then a few pages per minute can add up to thousands of "accesses" per hour.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

damm.. he must have hit those sites which opens mutiple windows..

0 ( +0 / -0 )

780,000 times in a nine-month period?

Amateur.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

780,000 times in nine months is practically impossible. He'd have to be clicking 516 pages an HOUR in a given 40 hour work week. Granted, he was probably working a lot more hours, but even if he was working say 70 hours a week, he'd have to still click approximately 342 pages an hour! If each page takes approximately 5 to 10 seconds to load up, we can see that it becomes near on impossible and senseless to even try, given that he wouldn't have time to view them. Probably clicked on a mere several hundred pages with a crap load of links that work behind the scenes. This would make more sense.

Anyway, obviously the guy's a perv and not very computer literate, otherwise he would have used a legal software program to keep his computer clean such as http://www.regcurescan.com

Never mind reducing his pay - send him to the dole office!

Civil servant demoted for accessing porn sites 780,000 times during office hours

This guy is my hero!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If you could find no other reason to fire him, I would say that 170,000 porn site views in a month could be seen as constructive sexual harassment of IT staff...

Peace

0 ( +0 / -0 )

what a loser on so many levels and he kept his job, guess that makes him a winner at one thing. I guess he is now the office joke, though being such a loser in the first place he probably already was...

The thing that amazes me the most is how sloppy he was at it, no proxy, no erasing his tracks just a amazon river flow of porn....how sad
