I wish the United States were much more cooperative to the idea.

It's too late! Global Warming cannot be stopped nor slowed. It is inevitable the ocean levels will increase as the ice caps melt, thus slowing down the ocean currents and pushing the world into another ice age. Japan should be focusing on how they are going to feed and house the population of the Kanto Plain after it becomes a salty swamp.

It's time for experts to discuss about chilling effect of financial/economic crisis rather than global warming. But, as we know politicans always have different priorities. Good luck !

I wish all of them best, but really things seem to be to late all around the different worlds, to cities. Possibly they can get across to many places that so many things are slowly destroying the world.

Tomorrow never dies, but the conditions in which that tomorrow will be like can only be better when a group of countries commit to a viable course of action. The level of technology isn't high enough to change the present course, but something like solidifying CO2 emissions seems like a good initial step.

Wasn't Al Gore scheduled to speak at this? Does anyone know if he still is?

How much carbon dioxide did all these people pump into the atmosphere by converging on Tokyo? Couldn't a teleconference have worked and not have polluted as much?

  • hereandthere at 08:46 PM JST - 22nd October

The conference will focus on five themes—food problems, water management, temperature rises in urban areas, natural disasters and further issues needing response action

food problems- crops diverted for ethanol production water management - supplies diverted for use in the production of ethanol temperature rises - ah.. it's "urban", as in paved, lots of concrete. BTW, why no complaints about urban temperature rises in winter? natural disaster - they're natural... by definition furthur issues - like how to increase funding for their "research"

Yes, we should be taking economic advice from people who's specialities are for the most part completely unrelated to economic policy or maybe everyone should stop working(other than experts who discuss about the chilling effect of...) until the whole financial/economic crisis is over.

Snowed just west of Sydney today. Weird in itself but in October??? Global warming, bahhhhh!

  • escape_artist at 02:59 AM JST - 23rd October

eresay, the more accurate term is "global climate change". The colloquial term "global warming" is only a part of that. Some parts of the earth will warm while others cool, and overall havoc will reign as weather patterns change a whole lot faster than normal.

  • Blue_Tiger at 03:13 AM JST - 23rd October

Global Warming is neither man-made nor man-stoppable.

    > the more accurate term is "global climate change".

I like how the climate change "experts" keep moving the goal posts to suit their agenda. Since the average temperatures came down over the last few years, its now "climate change" after they professed "global warming." HA!
