Well, I guess this headline is better than, 'Hundreds of people admitted to hospital with permanent eye damage after viewing the eclipse through faulty goggles.' It'll be on the news for at least fifteen minutes tonight, so don't worry if you missed it.
So I left a meeting in central Tokyo around 11:30, and there were dozens of office workers outside doing exactly what they were told not to do -- staring unprotected up at the sun. (Except, of course, for shading their eyes with their free hand -- the other being tied-up holding a cigarette.) Hopefully the cloud cover protected most of them from their own stupidity.
Saw it from Hiroshima. Looked like a crescent moon. I did not feel like laughing at all those who traveled wide and far to get a glimpse. Felt sorry for them. I remember seeing a total eclipse in Europe in 1954. Never forget that.
I briefly saw it through the clouds a couple of times here in Tokyo- it only lasted a split second, but I'm glad I saw even that. Friends of mine also reported sightings.

I saw it here in Hokkaido very well, the sky was only a bit cloudy. Too bad it was only partially up here.

I like lunar eclipses better because the moon takes on a blood red glow. That's pretty cool. The shadow of the earth engulfs the moon.

Next is annular eclipse in 2012. Shame that one of the stunning photos of this eclipse couldn't find its one to the photo of the day.

it was easily visible through the clouds here in Osaka. You could see it without glasses as the thin mist of cloud obscured the brightness just enough.
