A large concrete slab was found on a farm road after it came loose and fell from an elevated bridge used for the Tohoku Shinkansen in Osaki, Miyagi Prefecture, police said Friday. No one was injured and train services were not disrupted.
According to JR East Japan, the slab fell from a soundproofing wall sometime on Thursday, Sports Nippon reported. It was approximately 40 cm wide, 50 cm tall, and weighed 9.7 kilograms.
JR East officials believe the slab broke off after water had gotten in a crack between the slab and the wall, then become frozen during the winter and expanded.
A maintenance team inspected the bridge last July and found nothing out of the ordinary.

Not very big, but still enough to ruin your day if it fell on your head. It's just good news that it's not a structural problem with the bridge.
