Consultation hotlines for foreign workers in Japan have been set up in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. Lawyers specializing in workplace issues will be available to offer advice.

The phone number for the Tokyo office is 03-6427-5902; for Nagoya 052-414-5901. In Tokyo and Nagoya, individuals may seek consultation in English, Portuguese and Spanish. In Osaka, the number is 06-4708-3637, and callers may seek consultation in English and Chinese.

NHK quoted an official from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, as saying that from the end of October last year to the present, the number of foreigners employed in Japan rose to approximately 717,000 individuals and is expected to continue rising in the future.

Sounds good, but how does this differ from the current labour offices that do this?

Does the Hello Work already know this hotline? Public sevice can be fast in this country but sometimes you get yourself in a pizza parlour with 2, 3 people scratching their heads "pizza? eeto, you mean that italian snack? maybe you should try in the next corner"

HelloWork is for people who are out of work. This new hotline is for people who are employed, but are having some difficulties with their boss, company, etc. and need a consultation.

Thanks for posting this, JT.

This is long overdue in Japan but it's a good step forward.

717,000 individuals, most of those chinese low paid trainees. i know of a couple of companies that have chinese workers, while on paper they pay them over 100,000yen/month reality is many get less than 70,000yen. I know ive asked a few of them. basically you can work as a trainee in Japan if you agree to a slave wage.
