Only in Japan would someone know the age of a palace. I guess at fifty it ought to have been demolished long ago.

Only 1 billion Yen for repair? Did it go out for bidding? Probably would have been cheaper to knock it down completely, and build a new one...

energy efficient maybe....cost efficient definitely not. regular power bills for the next 50 years would still be cheaper than the money they just spent on so-called energy efficient renovations

Oh, I feel so much better now we won't be wasting money on elctric and gas since we wasted it on remodeling the palace. Seriously, maybe it's because I'm an American but I think figurehead monarchies are a total waste of time and money.
