Extremly sad for those 9 people...

But on the other side... Such an earthquake anywhere else in the world and you would need to add 4 or 5 (or even 6) zeros to that number...

I was watching the news this morning and they were naming three of those just found. Each of them were decent, hard working people, who did a lot for their local and national community. As I watched, I couldn't help but ask myself: Why is it always the good people that die in these things while gangsters, rapists, murderers etc, live to ruin another day? I know life can be cruel, but sometimes I just wish good people were spared from such horror.

Can you just imagine if this earthquake hits tokyo? with all glass falling from the sky and subway lines going under, fire and accidents...then we might have 4 or 5 zeros after it. Its not the earthquake that really devastated Kobe, it was the ensuing fire.

Youdontknow........very thought-provoking ideas you put forward, but I don't think the Universe works like that. When your time comes, it comes.

its sad but lets say that Japan is built well. If this was China we all know the results...Sorry to the dead. you did nothing to kill yourself and have died in a tragedy. you will be missed.

lets say that Japan is built well.

Well yes it is on the whole, but a bigger factor in this earthquake seems to have been that the strongest shocks were in mountainous areas, not the cities. In many places the sides of the mountains have simply slipped down into the valleys.

Still, we're very lucky to have 'only' 10 dead.

In general people are inherently good so it just seems like the good always have tragic endings. It si random and in some cases fate if you believe in that. WHat are the chances that those people were there at that particular point in time when this quake happened. Also, how many people were spared simply because they missed a train, changed their schedules or minds about going. Some people are just meant to die in a particular way. Sad even so!
