"He said he was in Japan to meet with aviation authorities and airlines, and the company had picked Japan as the place to outline the battery fix." Here in Japan is one place he can say anything and most people will do an ojigi and walkaway, even if the explanation or solution (or the absence of one) is sub par at best.

Boeing should also include a few fire extinguishers for good measure.

He probably picked Japan to hold the press conference because the fires occurred on a Japanese Airline and ANA have purchased/leased the most 787`s to date...

I hope this solves it but if Airbus bailed on these batteries for their next gen planes I am going to wait awhile before flying on a 787 trans-pacific.

Hope they introduce cheaper fares to entice people to come back.

They said it would take too long to figure out what had specifically caused the problems in Boston and southwestern Japan but the new design would ensure 787s are safe.

This translates into plain Engli$h as follows:

They said it would take too long to figure out the real cause of the battery problem in which the battery looks like the end resulting failure but we don't want to state that for possible lawsuit$ that will follow when the truth is discovered. Since we have no real idea as to the problem and this problem/delay is REALLY cutting into our profit, we will gamble that we will find the source of the problem before any major incidents and or deaths occur.

Anyone care to refine the above translation?

They need to get this thing in the air...and now! It's starting to cut into the profits of the corporate stakeholders. As for the safety issue, that can be dealt with later.

You obviously haven't been following this issue on this forum.
