I will miss her when I visit the Zoo next time .Often take my son there for a Picnic.

Yeah, an old and rather small Zoo mostly exhibiting local wildlife, but great for a family outing, both parts.

The Squirrel cage you can walk through is popular, had a few climb up my Body.

There is also the Bunka-en with some great and famous Statues, well worth a visit.

Next door is the Studio where the Nagasaki Peace Park Statue was created, 1/1 original is also there.

RIP, Hanako. Will miss you every time when the Hana-chan or Evo-zou rubbish trucks come around.

Depression can kill.

Isolated and deprived of her natural environment for all her life. What an appalling life she had.

I hope they think long and hard before getting another animal to torture.

67 Years in jail. So sad. And she was not guilty of any crimes.

“I’m filled with sorrow,” zoo deputy director and general curator Hidemasa Hori said of Hanako’s death.

That's a bit rich. Look at the conditions Hanako & others face. Tiny enclosures with nothing but concrete & iron bars. I've been to zoos all over Japan and it's very clear that little to no consideration is given to the animals' wellbeing. Ueno Zoo is a shining example of this. I left feeling awful about what I'd saw.

Far too many "zoo's" in Japan are disgusting & animals in god awful enclosures.........

Time to start shutting these down!

Just terrible. I know many signed the petition and were hoping for better conditions for poor Hanako. The deputy directors hypocrisy is sickening.

Let's also remember the other animals in zoos in Japan and some other countries living in terrible conditions.
