Anybody who has been married to the same person for 50 years deserves congratulations, especially with the stresses of Imperial life.

What does this Emperor do? Is it similar to the Queen of England?

The 75-year-old emperor has also been thinking of how to play an ideal role as a symbol of the unity of the Japanese people, ever since ascending the throne on Jan 7, 1989 following the death of his father Emperor Hirohito.

I hope he comes up with the ideal role. He's been thinking about it for 20 years.

But congratulations to 50 years of marriage (not that divorce was an option but the emperor and empress look like a happy couple.)

Good luck to the Emperor on many years of continued service.

The Queen of England doesn't exists, by the way. Hasn't since the act of Union in 1707.
