notice what is different in this picture versus other pictures of heads of states(yes he is the head of state, noda is the head of gov't) in cars. that car isn't a 5 ton armored limo like you would see obama, putin, brown, gillard in.

get well soon dear emperor.

"Get Well Soon" wishes for the emperor and his grand daughter.... was she infected by emperor or vice versa?

was she infected by emperor or vice versa?

Unlikely either way, since even members of the royal family rarely interact with the emperor. And even though I think the position of the emperor and the whole Imperial Family and agency are a collosal waste of money -- and precious green space -- I wish him a speedy recovery. I genuinely admire him as a preson and believe his heart is in the right place.

Get well soon emperor. Little Aiko too.

Odaijini, hope for a quick recovery. Too bad the Emperor cannot "retire" or formally abdicate. Legally, they're in for life.

Get well Emperor Akihito and Princess Aiko!

meeting with Danish Prince Joachim and his wife Princess Marie, as well as a tea party

How lovely! A tea party! Such a pity he has to cancel! What does the emperor actually do besides meet with other people of "royalty" and have tea parties?

perhaps this is the time to talk about putting silly, archaic ideas like hereditary leaders?

constitutional monarchies are the most stable form of government. The Emperor sets the tone for much of the government no matter what others may think, even if he doesn't control all the politics. Good health to the Emperor and his grand daughter.

I had bronchitis once, it wasn't too bad actually, just a lot of phlegm being coughed up.

@some14some Pneumonia and bronchitis are completely different aren't they? I don't think you can get one from the other.

@uzneko A linguistic mistake on Japan Today? You're kidding!!

Wow, emperor family members are so vulnerable to the bronchitis... Let they be in good health. A little from me to Japanese people: wear skarfs and drink tea with lemon or use vitamins.

*A little tip

Get well soon mr emperor and little aiko too. Neither of these conditions are in themselves contagious but are caused by preceding conditions like a cold or viral infection.

Our tax money pays for their health care 100 percent. There. Is that on topic?

I am just have trouble understanding how the Japanese people can get bronchitis since they are all descended from gods according to Shinto, particularly the king and family, since they are from one of the greatest gods.

Emperor Hakihito and your Grand daughter, wishing you both a speedy recovery.

Bluewitch, kind of wondering what you're "what?"ing about? Don't you know the history of the Japanese royal family??

Hope he gets better but yes, why not get rid of the royal family. What purpose do they serve? And before anyone says things like planting trees and making nice with royals from other nations, we really don't need that when we have a PM that does the same.

The best way to avoid contracting influenza or cold is to keep yourself warm and drink plenty of fluids. Liquids like tea can also reduce mucus thickness.
