The Imperial Househo;d Agency of Japan sucks, it is composed of dinosaurs who know nothing about real life in the 21st Century AD.

Deguchisan: Killing millions of Asians tortureong them and bombing major Asian cities plus raping Asian women and killing kids using bayonets is Protecting from you?
Moderator: Back on topic please.

I mean protecting For you?

Another incomprehensible PR disaster by the Imperial Household Agency. How could they ever have thought a visit by the Japanese Emperor would not be politically sensitive when the chief of staff of Japan’s air force was fired a mere few months ago claiming Pearl Harbor was a US trap.

Deguchisan: I want to thank you for enlightening me on Japanese culture, because I too was pissed after reading the earlier post, so I asked my girlfriend if it were true what you said, and she confirmed without having any knowledge of this article.

That is without a doubt the funniest load of garbage I have ever read in the JT threads. Are you suggesting the attack on Pearl Harbor or the invasion of the southern Pacific were in defense of Asia? Where did you study history? Mad magazine?

Another opportunity missed. Good going Imperial Household Agency. Why not gain some good press for the Emperor abroad rather than looking like he's dodging what could be a difficult situation. Hawaiians and Americans in general would welcome the Emperor visting Pearl and would see it as a great sign of respect.
aelieth at 12:01 AM JST - 14th March
I have to agree, this was a BAD idea to say they would go and then cancel it. This just further makes WWII vets and their kids a little more pessimistic about how the Japanese think about WWII.
Americans would see it as a sign of respect, there would be nay-sayers, but on a whole I believe it would do far more good than anything else. Probably more than anything else they could possibly do. Something like this would actually make headlines on something like Drudgereport or CNN. Baaah.

Yes, sort of like Chinas's ever growing victim numbers.

I think it's wrong to blame the Emperor himself since all these decision are made by the old farts in the Imperial Household Agency, which really ought to be cleaned out and rejuvinated. It would have been a reconciliation coup to visit the Pearl Harbor Memorial. Those of us Americans who would have griped about it would have been the minority compared to those who would appreciate it for what it was.

This change of schedule was probably ordered by the people who control royalty.
illsayit at 10:53 PM JST - 17th March
Such a change in schedule, can only be the work of a woman. Why cant the Emperor confess up, he was hoping to take his wife for a royal romp, in true Japanese holiday style-Hawaii. Diplomatics has nothing to do with it! You'd think 'fessing up to that would look heaps better than seeing who is the muscle behind things, or who has muscle in things.

WW11 ended 54 years ago. America spent billions to rehabilitate Japanese industry after the war and did the same for Germany. Japan was on the same side as America in WW1. Japanese visit our WW1 Shrine in Melbourne for those who served and died in WW1 to honor their parent/grandparent that served in the Japanese Navy escorting Australian troops to the middle east in that war. Japan has been a wonderful trading partner for the US and Australia for decades. We have all benefited. If the Japanese Emperor is not yet comfortable with visiting Pearl Harbour, he is mature enough to make that decision. He received a very warm welcome in Australia. It is a great world and we need to focus on making a better life for all.
