Japanese escalators sure have a lot of problems! I've never read of escalator accidents anywhere else, just Japan.

Where can we see the video?

telecasterplayer,
the high number of accidents may have to do the sheer number of escalators in use in Japan, vis a vis other developed nations- the built up, compact vertical nature of urban areas here, as well as the highly developed public transportation network requires a large number of escalators.

telecast,
Try "Google". There's plenty of escalator accidents all over the globe.

What's this ? More issues with Japan's poorly designed escalators ? Seems to me I was squaking about this just a few weeks ago:
-Exactly princeska ! The problem is "the escalators" !
-Fact is, Japanese run up and down, push and shove, and basically act like a buncha wild galloots on the nations escalators !
-I say METI focus more on Toshiba and Otis Elevator for their next investigation. I mean really now, just look at the design... trofts that creat gaps and uneven surfaces like the Japanese have created a water drainage system for their escalators ! Damn strange if you ask me !
-this still doesn't address the issue of the escalator design !
-They should be questioning the escalator manufacturers. Case closed !
By the way, why is the name of the escalator company not named here ? Is this a secret ? Does anyone know ? Personally I'd like to avoid using escalators made by this company... they are obviously dangerous !

Heh. The first thing I always notice when arriving abroad is that people just stand on both sides blocking everything.
You can bash and complain all you want, but concerning escalater manners Japan is like heaven.

The blame should not always go to the escalator manufacturers. I think there is always a warning sign on the side, (before stepping on the escalator) that says hold on to the handle of the escalator and never play with it as it is dangerous.
Awareness could've prevented this people from obtaining unnecessary bruises and cuts. The malfunctioning of the escalator is another issue though. ;)

There is a reason why the manufacturer recommends standing still and hold the hand rail while riding the escalator. And none of your sophomoric comparisons on how people in other countries ride escalators matters. Case in point: The story about the little girl who lost her toe on the escalator in Japan while wearing crocs shoes. Millions upon millions of crocs sold world wide and only Japan gets a case where a child is injured on a escalator while wearing those shoes. No one blames the playground behavior of the child on the escalator, just the shoes. Fact is kids and adults in Japan need to grow up and stop running up and down escalators.
