Law is a law, that's what people say, I agree with you guys they made a mistake entering in japan with false identity. they should be punished, and japanese government did.. Sarah paid for her mistake imprisoned for a year, paid for a 100,000.00 yen,I cannot blame you saying bad comments to the family but you know why, they came from a poor country which every fipino dream to escape from hunger, let's face it..Im also a filipino who dreamed to go to other country and work there in anyway possible just to give my family a good future, but I simply cant because of application fees and agency fees. my question is why do people given them a hard time, a bad comment. all they want is just to live a better life. other says" save for the rainy days" the family is broke right know .. imagine they paid for penalties , the case is almost 2 years now.the japanese government as them not to go to work for 2 years, pay all their taxes since 1992 up to present, then they will deny their request of having a special permit to move on with their lives..I think its unfair.. If they will be sent to the philippines they will be no job for them here because of their age, next.. somebody said they could send the child to a japanese school... they cant do that.. its to expensive.Noriko ready dont know how to speak tagalog.. I should know Im her aunt.So please If you cannot say anything good to others dont say anything at all.. you dont know the real situation and what really happens.stop accussing them they dont kill anybody, they dont still any money , they come to japan to work..cant you just imagine for 15 years my brother in law Arlan work in one company for 13 years.. and my sister in one company for 8 years.they just work hard for a living.they dont hurt anybody .. so please give them a break.

"they came from a poor country which every Filipino dream to escape from hunger"

How demeaning!!! Is that how every Filipinos live now?

"well don't you think its about time japan will open their doors to us Filipinos."

There many Filipinos working legally in Japan for many years. In fact, they are opening their doors to Filipino nurses and caregivers (even if the salary is not that competitive). Don't you know anything about it?

  • yumi18 at 11:31 AM JST - 30th November

well moccachan if you are not a filipino well that's the fact. Philippine is a poor country and 70 % of the filipino people wants to go to other and better country to live in and have a good futurein fact millions of filipino are living and working and others are also illegal to different country just to give their love one here in the philippines a good life.maybe you're so gifted and very rich that you could enter and exit to any country you want but Im talking about filipino that will do anything just to survive open your mind and open your eyes... yes you're right japanese government is now opening they're doors to filipino people but were talking about way back 1993..hello, how old are you right now? and year is the japanese people open they doors?

  • moccachan09 at 01:55 PM JST - 30th November

Statistically speaking, you are wrong that 70% of Filipinos are poor. Others go out of the country because they want a better job, to experience how to live in a first world country, to broaden their thinking, to study and to have a brighter future but it does not mean that they are escaping from hunger. I believe that is your reason to go to Japan too. Does it mean that you are dying of hunger? Don't give sweeping statements here about your countrymen, give them the respect they deserve.

I may not be a Filipino but this issue gives Philippines in general and Filipinos in particular a bad image not only in Japan but around the world. Let us stick to the issue. Don't drag other Filipinos to the reason why your relatives entered illegally in Japan.

I wish the government will grant Noriko chan her desire to continue her studies in Japan but it does not mean that her parents will not pay for what they did to the country. The act of using false identities to enter the country is likened to a traitor.

They should be happy, they were allowed to live and earn a living in the country for 15 years. It is impossible that they haven't invested something back in the Philippines knowing that there stay is not permanent.

  • moccachan09 at 02:01 PM JST - 30th November

Everything in this world happened for a reason. They should see the brighter side of it. They can live FREELY in their homeland and Noriko chan can also experience being a Filipino. She is a true-blooded Filipino, I think she will find solace in the Philippines with her countrymen.

Her parents already paid for their acts,.. we're just asking for a little consideration, in there part 15 years serving japan and survive is not an easy task especially to illegal aliens like them. Im just telling you guys a possible things that will happen to the family especially to the child if Japan will let them back to the Philippines.I told you you're not a filipino and not even a poor one in your country that is way you can say things easily.. Im not dragging other filipinos in this issue , Im just telling you the truth, that Philippines is a poor country and I can't do anything about it.Others go out of the country because they want a better job, to experience how to live in a first world country, to broaden their thinking, to study and to have a brighter future but it does not mean that they are escaping from hunger. You are talking about rich people living here in the philippines. Im talking about the other side of it.. If that's your opinion ., fine.. all Im asking from others who comment in this issue please. let God do the decision.thats all thanks.thanks moccachan

Well I am not Filipino, but I have met many and do have some good friends who are and I am 100% sure that this Noriko chan, is pretending to only know how to speak Japanese! This kid's parents are both FILIPINOS, why would they even think of trying to speak to each other at home in broken Japanese? After a hard day's work? Drinking a nice cold San Miguel beer? Come on, this is a bunch of b.s. of Noriko chan "being too Japanese" she should just go back to her parent's native country, enjoy the nice weather, food etc..and get a great job in P.I. since she will be a hot commodity know both languages and cultures, the hell with Japan!

The only way immigrants to Japan are going to be treated fairly is through representation in government. Are there any non natives serving in Japan's Parliament? Where is Japan's Barack Obama? Nobody should expect change anytime soon.

I have a sympathy for Noriko Calderon however if she allowed to stay & study, there will be flood of illegal immigrants will bring their kids. Japan does not like USA. It has no natural resources & limited small land of islands. Population is more than one quarter of US. If japan has to accept the immigrants like states, Honshu island will be sinked.

It has alreay more than 120 millions. Besides that Japan is facing the economic downturn & some social problems. There are many homeless, unemployment & disabled & sick people. Government donated a lot of money to overseas for getting a good image. However disadvataged people are ignored in homeland. It is time for charity start at home.

Not only Fillipinos, all people from developing countries want to work & stay. The reason is higher wages. When they go back to their homeland, they are realtively prosperous. If the japanese girl born & raised in Phillipine, she can not speak japanese. She still needed to deported if her parents are illegal immigrants.

Immigration law can not favour the young & cute girl. Law is the law.

Many people on this site may not know, that even a backward place like Japan with immigration policy that is shooting itself in the foot, even Japan has a mechanism for particular cases to be heard. Immigration is aware of why many people come into Japan on false documents, or come in one one visa and overstay. Of course they do, they deal with it every day. That is why they have the "Special Permission for Residence" which this family have applied. And yes, even in backwards Japan, they have managed to recognise that this means giving visas to a whole family. They do it fairly frequently. Previously the criterion for giving special permission was if a child was of high school age. Now it seems to be generally for junior high age and above. The reason for this? Is this because the people at Immigration are a soft touch, taken in by a sob story? Not a bit of it. They understand that in cases like this, the family have been paying in far far more than they will possibly take out. They are an asset to Japan. They also realise that it is a fact that the vast majority of children born to working class families in Japan, or those that came here under 6 or 7 years of age, indeed do not speak their parents' language, even though both parents speak it at home and may have a limited grasp of Japanese. There is no need to pretend anything; that is the reality here. It's actually a big problem, but that's not the issue here. If Noriko speaks no Tagalog, she is a normal case here. Immigration do realise that children from working class families going back to their home countries at junior high school age will face big barriers. That is why they often give Special Permission to them. I'm not sure why this case is even news.

Japan's Child Welfare Act states, "all people shall strive to ensure the sound birth and growth of children, both in mind and body. The livelihood of each and every child shall equally be guaranteed and protected".

It could reasonably be argued that deportation of a Japanese-born girl to a poor country where she does not speak the language in the middle of her education would contravene this. There is therefore a very good legal (rather than emotional) argument as to why she should stay.

Japan also employs statutes of limitations on crimes and this all goes back to a crime 16 years ago. In Japan you get away with murder for hiding long enough, but not immigration offences?

I also expect that the parents have been working and contributing to the economy, doing "KKK" jobs ever since. These are people that Japan needs and in reality regularly turn a blind eye to.

Let the girl and her parents stay. To the "send 'em back" crowd: Shame on you.

  • anonymouswoman at 04:32 PM JST - 3rd December

a little consideration for them but the parents violated the Japanese law using assumed name...now pity the people whose name were used by these couple...but again, are they married or they met each other here and had a child, would not want to go home because probably they have their own families in the Philippines....it happened to some too and it was really complicated. i pity the children when it comes to this kind of a problem. the child who is 13 can actually adjust well where she will be. children can adopt easily with their environment and they learn the language fast. oh by the way, I can say only 30 to 50% poor filipinos, others are really very wealthy and travels a lot. you should meet one and you will be surprise how huge their houses in the Philippines with a swimming pool, a tennis court with five cars....wow!
