A fire destroyed most of a three-story commercial building in the shopping area near JR Okachimachi station on Monday morning.
According to police and firefighters, the fire broke out at around 3:30 a.m. TV Asahi reported that 28 fire engines were mobilized to the scene. After about two hours, the blaze was extinguished.
No one was injured, police said. Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire which destroyed the second and third floors of the multitenant building.

It appears to have not affected Shinkansen service, since the Shinkansen rail lines are underground at the area of Okachimachi Station.
