Giant squid are not edible as their flesh has a high ammonia content.

What a sad and brutal way to die for the innocent squid. Apology deserved, even though post mortem.

He doesn't regret killing it, he regrets not keeping the corpse in better condition. What he probably means is, he wishes they'd killed it where the injuries don't show, so that they'd got more money for it.

When I saw the headline I was expecting a story about a bloke getting into a fight with a squid...
They said at 8m it was relatively small... if that's small I'd hate to come face to face with a biggie.
