I can not even try to imagine how cold and horrible their deaths were. RIP

Elbuda, my thoughts exactly. That water must have been cold. I can't see someone surviving to long in those cold ocean currents up there.

An 18 ton boat with no liferafts?

I'm sure the boat passed numerous Japanese safety inspections! Too bad an inspector most likely never set foot on the deck! My sympathies to the dead crew members.

'arry, maybe the lifeboat/raft was burned in the fire. (?)

Cold, yes. Horrible? Hypothermia makes you want to sleep. They just fell asleep one last time.

What I would like to know is: what have they been doing since the fire started till they jumped. It seems to me that 4 hours would have given them enough time to: 1) Secure the life raft/boat (if any, but there should be) 2) Call/radio for help.
