Fragments from Atomic Bomb Dome building found in river

A group of university students this week collected fragments of Hiroshima's Atomic Bomb Dome building from a nearby riverbed as part of a field trip to mark the 100th anniversary of the iconic building that was blown apart when the A-bomb was dropped in 1945.

Hiroshima University students discovered charred fragments of the dome's old roof and pieces of the road in the Motoyasu River which flows next to the Atomic Dome, NHK reported.

The building was originally called the Hiroshima Prefecture Bussan Exhibition Hall.

The pieces of the old building collected by the students will be sent to universities in both England and Germany for display and learning purposes, officials said.

Yes, Show the worlds children the futility of War and pray that the current rulers around the globe remember the past horrors should never be repeated.

I just came back from visiting the Atomic Dome. The presentation of the destruction and pain caused by the bomb was excellent. It was also quite depressing for me as an American. I can only hope no group or country ever does such things again. I'm sorry Japan!

I would love more information on this. How in the world do they know the pieces are from THAT building. The entire city was hit. I am sure pieces from hundreds and hundreds of buildings fell into that river. Wouldn't any and all of them be important. I mean..... That building is important because it is still standing. So.... the pieces that fell off are not important. To me I think it would be far more fascinating to study the pieces from buildings that are long long gone and can now be studied.

Karirb, you said The presentation of the destruction and pain caused by the bomb was excellent." what do you mean by this? are you saying it was ok for the Japanese people to suffer like this? or was it a incorrect typo?

Worthwhile find and should be researched and displayed.

Many US Soldiers and Tourists have tears in their eyes after visiting ditto for other firebombing sites. Shocking to see the devastation 1st-hand.
