When I told a 2nd year employee at the company I work at about this news story, he replied "We haven't heard anything about it". What do you think he was implying? a) we are not interested (nobody cares) about any negative story outside our country involving our citizens? or b) you fill it in. I couldn't understand what he was trying to say other than "whatever you say is not interesting so just let me talk".

"What do you think he was implying?"

He was implying that he knows damn well what has happened but simply doesn't want to talk about it. Typical Japanese response when faced with such a humiliating set of circumstances.

Do you reckon ,by any chance, Honda will donate Freed man, a Honda Freed, as promotion for Honda cars?

The possom, thanks for your take. But I think you are missing something, or maybe (quite probably) I am. I tried to convey that this is a fresh young mind (about 25) that I was dealing with. One who graduated from a top college here, and went abroad to study at a top University elsewhere. Somehow, in all my ignorance, I expect more capacity from such a person, than from another category or person, but it is not to be. Is the bottom line of your comment that the people here, regardless of their age just stick their heads in the sand when not "prepared"? Oppositely, I find that elder people are prone to answer more frankly and appropriately. I feel his comment smacks of dishonesty, or false bravado. That was my point.
