It is great what he's doing but with the tests they are planning, I can't see the Japanese government allowing them to enter Tokyo waters to begin their journey.

The Toxic Avenger in reverse.

This is all just a big publicity stunt. Expect a lot of fanfare and news coverage. But the guy will quit in a day or two for some "unforeseen" reason.

Gabatte eco-swimmer francais! the French are good at this!

Oh the horror! Perhaps he should just fly to Tokyo, and so get a much higher radiation dose doing so.

If we all swam for our trips across the Pacific, think of all the diesel fuel it would require for our support vessels!
This is such a moronic example of being "green" it might just work!

If he really cares about his children he shouldn't really swim in the ocean current that carries the massive unstoppable radioactive flow from Fukushima.

Definitely not good for health.....!

Really... to prove what point?
Who's paying for all that? WHY?
What does that achieve for any cause?
Take that money and pay those that are willing to work to keep the world green. That money, then will have been well spent.

You know they use events like this as fundraisers, right? It's likely that he'll raise a lot more for his cause than he will spend.

Sensei258 nailed it. Had the gentleman somehow managed to make it all the way across, he would succumb to hypothermia once he entered the current flowing down the North American West Coast from Alaskan waters. There's a reason why all those California surfers have to use wetsuits. I'm sure this guy knows this and plans to abort sometime before then.

I'm really not sure of the point of this - other than to earn money from the TV documentary which is being filmed of the swim. I congratulate him on his very impressive endurance, but in all honesty it should also be noted that he spends more time on his boat than in the water, and in his Atlantic 'crossing' he took a week's break in the Azores. I expect he will certainly need one ot more breaks on the Pacific 'crossing'. A nice holiday in Hawaii is on the cards ...
