So how many surviving Korean hibakusha actually repatriated to the location? What does 'a large number' mean? $38 million sounds like an awful lot for this. Who is providing the funding? Not enough info in this article...
It is about time that Koreans recognize the fact that their grandparents shared the same fate as their Japanese counterparts in this crime against humanity committed by the victors of WWII.
There were over 240,000 Koreans in the Imperial Japanse Army and Navy,
from enlisted men to high ranking officers. And they weren't "forced into
serving" by the Japanese because the numbers who enlisted far exceeded the
Japanese quotas. This is part of the Korean identity that they completely
deny while crying perpetual victim. Perhaps facing the reality that some Koreans suffered right alongside the Japanese (both civilians unfortunately in this case) at the hands of the allies might help wake them up into understanding their real history.
