SAPPORO —
The deadly H5N1 strain of avian influenza has been detected in a dead swan on the Notsuke Peninsula in eastern Hokkaido, the Environment Ministry said Monday.
Following the discovery of the virus, the Hokkaido prefectural government began on-site inspections of five chicken farms within a radius of 30 kilometers of the site where the dead swan was found. The dead swan was found April 24. The swan earlier tested positive for avian influenza virus in a simple examination and Hokkaido University conducted a probe to determine if the virus is highly pathogenic.

Something wrong with this story, because earlier on KRY news, they said the swan was found in Kumamoto, in Kyushu. So which is it? Is this another flu scare to boost drug sales for flu remedies?
