Japan’s National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) in a recently released video is warning people to be wary of potential accidents caused by air-conditioners and fans as the weather warms up.
The video shows different ways how air-conditioners and fans at home may cause fires, such as the potential danger of having two separate electrical wires twisted together, or a misuse of air-conditioning cleaning sprays.
NITE said on its website that between 2010 and 2015, there have been a total of 612 accidents in Japan involving air conditioning and fans, with approximately 60 percent of them resulting in home fire.
Amid an increased usage of cooling home appliances ahead of the summer, the institute warns people to avoid usage of old fans, check on AC cables and make sure that air-conditioners are well dried after using cleaning sprays, among other precautions.

Those old fans are fantastic - built to last - unlike anything you can buy now. As for AC, we built our house to be passive and has no need for AC. Sensible building design - something the government should be promoting if it was serious about tackling CO2 emitions.

Warning - to avoid serious injury, do not stick your tongue through the safety cage of your electric fan!
"See Marge, because of me they have a warning." H.S.

@ifd66
there are a lot of different passive cooling techniques around the world. If you don't mind I was wondering if you could elaborate on what has worked for you in Japan?
Cheers
