The Nobel Prize Committee picks the winners, what are you talking about?
catek at 06:50 PM JST - 9th October
"Cabibbo himself has not commented on the situation."
Fair enough...
OssanULTRA at 09:21 PM JST - 9th October
The term "robbed" is completely misleading and incorrect as it appears none of the prize receipens are denying Cabiddo's contribution, Cabiddo himself hasn't commented on the issue and the decision was made by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Either the Italian physicists chose their words poorly or, more likely, the Italian newspapers resorteed to yellow journalism to provoke reader reaction.

Can we have some whine with that cheese.
BlackFlag at 10:01 PM JST - 9th October
you wouldnt say that if the sitiation were reversed, double standards eh oooh terrible

I wish they would go back to the days when there was 1 prize for 1 person. The committee is oversensitive enough as it is awarding multiple people in their attempts not to offend.
slappayuki at 10:32 PM JST - 9th October
"robbed" implies that the Nobel was actually stolen. Have the police been called in on this already?
KitsuneYoukai at 10:34 PM JST - 9th October
Blackflag...Of course we would. The prize was awarded so that is that!!! Italians need to shush and move on.

Hey - these guys have learnt from their football team. Don`t accept a decision going against you. Just spit the dummy, gang up on the decision maker and squark alot.

That's weird that Nambu got 50% of the $1.4M and the other two got 25%. I didn't know they split the money that way. The Nobel Prize has been littered with scandals, but since there is no other award that's near as prestigious or academically acknowledged they can continue to do whatever they want.

When Isaac Newton fell off the leaning tower of pizza he hit his head on an apple and was unconscious when they gave out the Nobel.
They oughta put these four guys in a ring and let 'em duke it out.
I shur hope this is on-topic. When I get deleted I feel useless as a one-legged man in an ass-kickin' contest.

Nambu probably deserved to be the sole recipient for his work. He is one of only a handful of stand-out physicists of the modern era.
The C-K-M trio probably deserved to be awarded the Nobel prize seperately in recognition of their work.
But to award 2 prizes in a similar field in the space of even a few years would probably irritate the hell out of other physicists working in unrelated areas.
So the selectors paid homage to the "3's company and 4's a crowd" idea and cut Cabibbo from the pie. Which most (but not all) scientists would claim to be a real travesty of reckoning. I doubt you'll hear much on this though from the local media.

Hmm, seemed odd to me that "all of a sudden" the Japanese have 3 Nobel prize winners in one year. Something stinks here !

Kjunluc2, lol! you been drinking by any chance? Hope they don't delete it, it brightens up the thread.
Barfly, I sort of half agree with you, but only because they're giving Nobels to people for things they did about 200 years ago. "All of a sudden" indeed. (Yes, 200 is a bit of an exaggeration. Just a little bit. But if it was so great, why wait?)

I'd just chalk it up to a quark of fate.
