The US won't allow Japan to cooperate, for fear that Japan would readily provide sensitive data on the ISS to China.

It's naive to think China would share national intelligence with a foreign country especially the most one that had caused the most pain in living memory. Or maybe Kawamura is on a spy mission for the US.

Japan is looking for a free ride into space. Having failed in their attempts to surpass NASA they have set their sites on copying from another country.

As if China is going to share their out dated and hard stolen space technology with a country that's in the defense bed with the United States.

I think no one should share anything with China under its present rule and massive military build up under the control of the communist regime.

"Perhaps we are reaching a moment in time where we may consider cooperating with China over space issues," said Chief Cabinet Secretary Takeo Kawamura. "But we hope that China will fulfill its role as a peaceful nation."- Kawamura
Translation: Perhaps we are reaching a moment in time to reflect on the fact that since we don't have a manned program of our own, nor can we shoot down satellites with our own home grown technology, perhaps it is most prudent that we learn a little more about China's demonstrated capabilities. But we hope that China doesn't attack us with their extremely accurate rockets.

Sino Japanese cooperation in space....That was tweh most hilarious joke ever recorded in Guiness world record...this joke really kills alot of people! For those patriotic Japanese like Ishihara shintaro the remarks from Kawamura was really disturbing and shameless!

sad fact is we have shared are universities with the Chinese to give them the ability to advance in such a way. Again giving China all we can at our on expense. Damn we are just to generous/

Hmm... I think that is a good oportunity for develop a more friendly relationship with China. After all even super poor North Korea can develop nukes and rockets. If Japan dont do something beyond just provide J cuisine to NASA, droop paper planes from space and send robots that nobody notice, most of Asia can left us behind. Oh, well... I gues that corrupt politicians like more to build roads to nowhere than build up the pride and international recognition of Japan with a space progam that dont make us look like inepts.
