TOKYO —
Japan and China will hold bilateral talks in Tokyo on May 7 to discuss measures to improve the safety of Chinese-made consumer products following a series of accidents stemming from defects and inappropriate ingredients, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said Monday.
The working-level meeting will be the second of its kind following one in Beijing in May last year and will be held on the sidelines of Chinese President Hu Jintao’s visit to Japan beginning May 6. During the meeting, the Japanese participants are expected to explain Japan’s consumer product policies, including strict preventive measures against accidents caused by aging products, which Japanese manufacturers are required to implement, the ministry said.

Don't trust them, it is that simple!

If it is only that simple! There was almost no time between my arrival in Japan and someone (in this case, a German) telling me the No.1 Japaneseness is 'shoulder zero responsibility at all cost'. So one wonders why they still bother. Maybe, just maybe, Japan can't play only in the capacity of a rich customer. She needs to make her dough somewhere, even from the big neighbour to the west, after all.
It's all important for the governments to talk and improve measures. It is also amazing how little meaningful exchange they have had this far. Yet the government can only do so much.
Individual companies need to know what they are doing.
