more people might be inclined toward them if they weren't labeled diapers perhaps -- anyone know if the same word in japanese is used for a babies' diaper as well as an elderly person's?

Yup - (seijinyo) kami-omutsu - paper nappies (for adults)

I saw a japanese video where people were wearing diapers, then they took them off, it all got very messy. thankfully someome with foresight had decided to blur some portions of the screen.

I would guess this show would draw more people with a diaper fetish than actual elderly incontinent types
