Do they not vaccinate for measles in Japan? Is it not usually a problem here?

Should have spotted this one coming.

Unbieberable! I guess this guy must have really loved Justin Beiber. 39C fever and rash all over your body, and you still attend a concert!
Black Sabbath
I would've though a different communicable disease would have spread from a Bieber concert....

Considering his age odds are he did not get the measles shot, Japan previously had stopped giving the MMR vaccination due to a huge number of allergic reactions.
Either way, a Bieber concert is more important to a GUY than being that sick? If anyone else catches it I hope they sue the hell out of him!

It's my understanding that you can still catch measles even if you've been vaccinated; the symptoms aren't as dire.
Most kids in Japan are inoculated using the MMR vaccine. If this 19-year-old's parents didn't have the sense to teach him not to go in large crowds when you have a fever and a rash, maybe they didn't have the sense to get him his MMR.

I got the MMR shot as a kid and came down with measles as an adult. The symptoms are worse as an adult, and the chance of death is greater for adults than children. Ended up being pretty much bedridden for two weeks, and the one positive was that I was too sick to smoke cigs and ended up giving them up completely without much accompanying stress. The more important question to ask is if you had to choose between attending a Justin Bieber concert vs. contracting measles as an adult....

Only guys who should go to a Bieber concert are guys going with their GF or fathers who have to take their daughters haha

Actually Japan stopped using the MMR vaccination, as I stated previously and the Japanese government continues to give the vaccinations separately and not as a single vaccination.
Some here will argue that he is still a child (rolling eyes sarcasm) as he is "only" 19 years old. But since the author chooses to refer to him as a "man", I would venture to say that he is only a man in age only, he sure the hell aint mature that's for sure.
Rather surprised they didnt refer to him as a boy, as they are often do with females, calling them "girls" at the same age.

I read about this case in the Japanese media I think a week or more ago. Since it's a matter of public health you'd think Japan Today could have got this article up a bit faster.
There is a problem here with adults who had never been vaccinated or had the disease as a child (or those in which the protective effects have worn off) catching measles and I think chicken pox, passing it on to pregnant women etc.

The concert is not such a problem, I would be more worried about traveling on an overcrowded train, with no open windows.

Here in Japan, our older son was vaccinated against measles, his little brother was not... The older boy almost died from the disease while his 2 year old brother was asking for "second helpings" through his ripe red face...

I had all MMR at early child age, not vaccine. I barely remember big fever and pain all over my body. No worry any more wherever I go.

Let's be fair, measles is not the first thing to come to mind if you have a fever and a rash (specially as photos of measles is not exactly something you see often). Guy probably thought he had an allergic reaction of some kind.

Demonstrating empirically that going to a Justin Bieber concert will make you sick...

I didn't know he still had such a following in Japan. Hopefully measles can be contained, though.
