I think the the Japanese think tanks needed some time to finish the calculations.

Japan doesn't need tanks, E-3 grade personnel armed with cheap katanas or bayonets are more than enough to serve whatever purpose you think they are trying to fulfill.

well Jpn ya better come up with a good REAL excuse because its looking like you going to come off looking useless, if you cant help out in a humanitarian situation such as this Jpn will be equally useless in any other situation

Way to go Jpn, looks like yr doing it to yrself AGAIN! Doh!

I hope this delay wasn't undertaken because of politics, but it probably was......

The Beijin government asked Japan's SDF to help ferry in supplies, Japan agreed and then the Chinese man-in-the-street Japan haters started an Internet campaign on the lines of 'we-don't-want-no-Imperial-army-comin-here'. The supplies, including SDF tents and blankets, will now be shipped in using chartered private sector aircraft.

At least that was what the news shows were saying this morning.

If that's true, it should also be remembered that the people needing the aid probably don't have Internet access in their makeshift tents - the Internet campaign is the work of cosy, I'm-all-right-Wang types.

Doh indeed. Looks more like the Chinese are doing it to themselves.

Seems you are correct Blue Tiger & it is a pity for so many are really suffering.

The ironic thing is that the Chinese Defence Ministry okayed the C-130 flights, and it was the Chinese Foreign Ministry which nixed it cuz of the rabid PRC internet hordes. Chinese bloggers sure aren't doing much to improve their country's image, but then again that's pretty universal.

neojamal: a think tank is not a tank ...slight difference

What matter is that the Japanese government has made the wise choice not to trample whatever cynical and proud agenda held by the CCP and the Chinese people at large. How unfortunate for the victims in Sichuan whose aid could not be dealt by the ASDF that is faster than civil contractors. But rest assure victims, that your pro-longed suffering will not be in vain. Your sacrifice will contain the fears in resurgence of Japanese militarism over your country perpetuated by your urban middle-class comrades who sit in front of a computer in a house that stands far away from here going by now usual business, who have no idea what you people have gone through.

And the Japanese say that they have no use of the US here, or from the other post about the American Col who interviewed Japanese males and blasted the US policy thinking that the world can all live in peace and harmony, I hope that they take a good look at this.

Japan, better prepare yourself for a rude awakening.

sounds like the Chinese internet gangs are being their usual stupid selves,but.............Japan has had many decades to deal with her ghosts & hasnt so leaves itself open to this kind of thing, not saying its right, just that it is.

It probably came about from the negative views expressed by some Chinese people over their government "selling China out". I think Japan is just being considerate and does not wish to give China more internal problems, given that they can help China in other ways with the current problems that the earthquake(s) caused.

Anyone miss the part about chartering aircraft in the article? I think it's a wise move as the activist Chinese citizenary were shrieking about Japanese "military" presence. According to the article although vague Japan is still sending the aid just not on SDF planes.

The cause is the anti-japan nationalism in China. It's silly to even try to shift the blame to Japan. China requested help and Japan agreed. A good neighbor can't do any more than that.

J-Sensation ending up in Big Fiasco, according to j-news channels it appears that the idea of SDF planes was floated by Japan's Ambassador in Beijing and not by China. When this gentleman was asked to clarify...as usual...He refused to go into details due 'sensitive' nature of the talks. Game over.

if the good neighbour did a little better in dealing with their past they wudnt hand this opportunity to get bashed now wud they, imo both sides look daft on this one
